Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Been running helix with 7 screens. Do I need to go back to plain old stock before the update?

Running Helix has nothing to do with whether or not you are at stock. If you never rooted then you don't need to do antyhing and will get the OTA update. If you rooted then the OTA update may be blocked (depending on what you did while rooted). Most custom ROMs block the OTA update.

We also got a screenie from VZW showing the update coming today...

Looks like photoshop to me. Maybe i am wrong. I certainly hope so since i just gave up root and UD 8.6.3!!!!!

Dumb question time... Let's say I get the update. I'm fairly certain that I'll lose my root. The question I have is... Do I follow the same rooting steps to re-root the phone or is re-rooting something that people will have to wait for until the guru's to figure it out? If we do follow the original rooting steps to re-root, do you think we'll be able to overclock the CPUs running the OEM ROM?

Soooo...

...if I'm rooted, but running stock 2.0.1 (yes, Nandroid is installed), would I be able to use Nandroid to install the update.zip or would I have to wait for someone to modify it to be Nandroid-ready?
Just curious, because I really don't want to lose my apps/settings, as I assume the VZW update maintains all of that whereas the BB ROM that I tried out didn't. Thanks!

The droidlife logo IS photshopped onto the screencap.

Here's something to do for all the doubters...

CALL your local VZW shop and ask them to read you this email.

As if they would. Thats confidential info if its coming through their email.

Fake

Sorry I wasnt clear...
I meant.. That shows ese53 which is NOT what is not on VZW...
I understand how that could have sounded the other way...

kid over at android forums "To be honest, I was expecting A LOT more. The phone now using the stock home launcher, is HORRENDOUSLY slow with the update. Even without live wallpapers. Home ++ on 2.0.1 was MUCH nicer IMHO. "
