Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Weird I am not having any issues with live wallpapers at all (using the Neural network one). No lag at all.

What I'm seeing is kind of subtle. Try it with live wallpapers on -- and off. When opening and closing apps, I'm seeing a barely noticeable stuttering with them On, like watching a movie at a very slow frame rate (like 8 fps vs. 24 fps.). Definitely there.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's almost like the device has about all it can handle; not as slick and fast as mine was when it was new. And I had no idea about the double click to get a thumbnail view of your home screens in HelixLauncher :) . Guess I gotta find time to get over to their site to read some docs about it.

got the 2.1 update yesterday. love it! so far, all is smoother and runs great on my droid. perfect combo paired with the helix launcher. totally dig the live wallpapers.

Just got the prompt to dl the update this morning, but because I have root on 2.0.1, it wouldn't lert me update (a good thing?). Updating would mess up my root and I would have to go through the process again, right? I was having a hard time installing busybox, I think it was just operator error though! How am I to install 2.1 since it's not letting me?

That is a decision you will have to make loose root and get the update or stay rooted and look for a custom ROM update... can't have your cake and eat it too it seems Eh?

did anyone install this from a rooted phone ota? or should i go back to stock first?

Got my update this morning.

My "Firmware Version" says "2.1-update1"

Does this mean this is a multi-part update or that more 2.1 updates are forthcoming?

That is just the name. I did the manual download and have the same name for the firmware.

From what I read somewhere, I cant remember where, Google plans on trying to keep what happened with 2.1 from happening all the time. I am referring to it taking so long, and the FW getting butchered by the manufacturer and the carrier. I am thinking Gingerbread, the next release (possibly 2.1-update2, will be part two of this transfer they are trying to do. I read that they are trying to make it where bug fixes go through the carrier and feature updates are just offered out from Google and users can update to them whenever they feel like it. I k now what you are thinking, yeah right, but I swear it wasn't some dink sight I read this off of. So take it for what you will, might be something to look forward to.:icon_ banana:

i got mine a few days ago and i love the live wallpaper, need more choices though and i updated so i now have 7 homepages for apps instead of 3 which is very very nice

How did you do this?
helix launcher

ClockworkMod also does this. It give you the 3D app drawer as well! It soon will be adding the 4 buttons that Helix has on the bottom. It is also smoother than helix. The downside, It costs $3.00, Helix is free, 10 Megs. The up side, it's $3.00 and you never have to pay again. Plus, you get a 3D App Drawer..which is Sweet! We now = the Nexus 1!

I think that will be true if you are rooted with a 2.1 rom and overclocking.

If you are rooted, you need to go back to start. Check around in the hack section there are many threads about how to do that in there.

Is their away to go back to 2.0 after receiving the 2.1 update. Iliked having more screens

Yes, you can go back, search in the hacks section there are plenty of threads on how to do that. But why would you want to, you only had 3 on 2.0? And if you get the Helix launcher you can have additional screens with 2.1.
