Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Only 4.5 hours until another 9,000 receive it. You've got think we'll have an update.zip then right? :)

Respectfully, i figured that...
ESE53 was probably started or finished on Feb 22 2010 the 53rd day of the year
ESE81 was probably started or finished on Mar 22 2010 the 81st day of the year
a couples days after the roll out did not go so well on the 18th of march...

I was just asking if any of you knew the differences between the two?

It's kind of an interesting sociological experience, this whole thing. Back in January, a number of people "leaked" "realiable sources" that 2.1 was on it's way, and....nothing. People were literally sitting up at night waiting for the update.

Then the 3/18 date came along...again, everyone seemed to have a "reliable source" When it became obvious that the "reliable sources" weren't all that reliable, there were a lot of people upset with Verizon and/or Moto and/or Google. Never buying another Verizon phone, going to T-Mobile and N1, etc etc etc.

Now with this latest announcement, more and more people seem to be doubtful more than assured it is coming. There seems to be less "excitement" and more wait and see.

I would think that if this time turns out to be a bust as well, people will have the actual update notification on their phone when it finally comes and won't believe it is real.

None of this will get 2.1 here any faster, but is interesting to see the trend in responses based on delays and communications, either real or perceived.

Blurry pictures don't cut it for me. Nor do what Verizon employees say over the phone to get folks to leave them alone ;)

It takes about five minutes to fake the screen we have been seeing. So yeah, I'm gonna have to see an actual update screen on my phone before I buy it.

The only reliable source is a Verizon spokesman or announcement made through and official Verizon channel. The fact that Verizon hasn't mentioned this at all today should be a clear sign that this is just more BS from 1 of the "Trusted Ninjas" that BGR has. People need to relax and enjoy their Droids until the update gets here instead of fixating on every leak about when it'll get here. :)

This might be already known: You can force a checkin for updates by dialing the following from the phone application:*#*#checkin#*#* It will pause and give you a result. It also appears to do a Marketplace update check too for updated apps

I dont think VZW will make an announcement when it comes out..it will just happen. Whats would be the point.

You can do this from the settings menu as well, but for something pushed, its not gonna make a difference. Also, the market only deals with apps.

Well, I can see that you and I see this from different perspectives and let me correct you about something. The update on 3/18 was verified as being released that day, and an announcement from Motorola came later saying it was delayed. So we really weren't wrong about that, they stopped it at the last minute.

Could it happen again? Chances are slim but I suppose possible. Right now though everything is indicating a "Go" and I see people with great excitement over this. At the beginning of the thread there were a few doubters but now it seems to be generally expected and the anticipation is great.

I think the poster is just pointing out that once again its just speculation and there is no real solid proof, so all these folks in the 'know' need to pipe down.

Blurry screencaps and verizon reps do not constitute as proof.
