If he had 2.1 and did a factory reset, wouldn't he still be on 2.1. There is the other way, but that is for a different forum on here.

Unless he used the update.zip for stock from 2.0.1.......

I would seriously hope that if he was one of the few to get the update that he's be smarter than that. Then again he didn't pull the file either.

Yea. Factory reset just formats the Data and Cache partitions. Not system.

So, if you're on wireless will you still get the update? If so, would the update be pushed via wireless? I'm guessing no... but if so it'd be pretty easy to get the source download location.

This has been answered like 3 times in the last 20 posts.... factory reset only wipes Data and Cache. It will not effect your firmware version.

Dude, get over yourself. I never said it was or was not a hoax, just that you would be hard pressed to get them to read confidential email over the phone.
