Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

The only reliable source is a Verizon spokesman or announcement made through and official Verizon channel. The fact that Verizon hasn't mentioned this at all today should be a clear sign that this is just more BS from 1 of the "Trusted Ninjas" that BGR has. People need to relax and enjoy their Droids until the update gets here instead of fixating on every leak about when it'll get here. :)

I dont think VZW will make an announcement when it comes out..it will just happen. Whats would be the point.

I think the poster is just pointing out that once again its just speculation and there is no real solid proof, so all these folks in the 'know' need to pipe down.

Blurry screencaps and verizon reps do not constitute as proof.

That I agree with. If blurry shots proved anything, we would have definitive proof of UFO's and Ghosts..

Multiple emails that all say the same thing.

Multiple VZW reps from all across the nation all quoting the exact same thing.

Multiple people on forums across the net all showing pictures of the exact same OTA update.

That is one elaborate hoax.

I've heard the same of crop circles.

It's kind of an interesting sociological experience, this whole thing. Back in January, a number of people "leaked" "realiable sources" that 2.1 was on it's way, and....nothing. People were literally sitting up at night waiting for the update.

Then the 3/18 date came along...again, everyone seemed to have a "reliable source" When it became obvious that the "reliable sources" weren't all that reliable, there were a lot of people upset with Verizon and/or Moto and/or Google. Never buying another Verizon phone, going to T-Mobile and N1, etc etc etc.

Now with this latest announcement, more and more people seem to be doubtful more than assured it is coming. There seems to be less "excitement" and more wait and see.

I would think that if this time turns out to be a bust as well, people will have the actual update notification on their phone when it finally comes and won't believe it is real.

None of this will get 2.1 here any faster, but is interesting to see the trend in responses based on delays and communications, either real or perceived.

Well, I can see that you and I see this from different perspectives and let me correct you about something. The update on 3/18 was verified as being released that day, and an announcement from Motorola came later saying it was delayed. So we really weren't wrong about that, they stopped it at the last minute.

Could it happen again? Chances are slim but I suppose possible. Right now though everything is indicating a "Go" and I see people with great excitement over this. At the beginning of the thread there were a few doubters but now it seems to be generally expected and the anticipation is great.

Could you point me to the "verified" OFFICIAL announcement from Verizon that 3/18 was the day? As far as I see, it started with a photo of an internal email (just like today, I might add). I never read anywhere, that Verizon Wireless OFFICIALLY confirmed the date, And please don't give me some reference to some forum where a Verizon "spokesman" sent an email to someone. Verizon would be announcing via official channels (their website) before sending individual emails to some geek at some droid site. (no offense to geeks everywhere).

Again, if you could provide real proof of that, I'd appreciate it. I've yet to see it.

I completely agree with you, and at one point I was excited for the update, after being let down twice I think we are all weary until we get it OTA or with the .zip. I do believe it is rolling out, but I don't think Verizon or Moto will announce the rollout until they are ready to send it to 200,000 in case there is a hold up, again.

I still think this is a hoax

this response, is classic ....

so can anyone spill the beans here ?

does it have 9 home screens or what ?

looking forward to the yahoo fix. i wonder if they fixed the wifi as well ...

before i decide to install, is there anything else that could possibly result in a tear from my eye due to disappointment ?

That's not the point. The point was that we did see an official announcement from Motorola that the update was delayed.

Also sometimes you have to put some faith into the sources. Engadget is what I consider a reliable source. I don't believe their just pulling this information out of their behinds. If they say the picture is genuine, I will take their word for it. Boy Genius Report is also confirming this. These are reliable internet outlets.

So you can be as doubtful as you want to be. I'm saying that people are optimistic that this is the real deal and it will come out as expected.

Lots of folks getting cranked up, sorta surprising considering it is April Fools at Midnight.

It would be funny if they actually did release it.:r_c:

Don't know if I want to put it on, the update may be a joke within itself....:rofl3:

Has anyone compared those blurry photos showing the kernel version with whats on the milestone?

If its the same, I'd be mourning instead of being excited.

It seems like they are officaly covering it up so they don't heve to go through the same amount of criticism they did with the 3/18 release date. They'll probaly "officaly" state the release dateafter the 24 hour wating period. There just kepping it hush hush or that's my theory anyways.

I'd say when it gets pushed to your phone, the option to install is there, but the re-occuring message to update may be so annoying you will just give in anyways, Straight from verizon's website about updating instructions:

You will be notified that a system update is available on your device. Press "Install now" and your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

Note: If you choose "Install later" this will delay installation and you will be taken back to the home screen. The system update message will appear every 30 minutes until you install the update.

It's not April Fools until midnight tomorrow night!
