Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

I got it

lol ive been reading the posts and the update was pushed to my phone like an hour ago but I keep hitting "install later" because i need to know why it would be better to update when I am already rooted?? my phone works fine on root, will it be more stable or something if i go ahead and install the OTA?

How about a way to install this for a complete newb.

Thanks

Try reading the post above you...

Rename to update.zip and place in the root of /sdcard

Then reboot to recovery and install (note that you will lose root access, as we do not have a known root exploit for this yet once installed).

Um, I said I am a complete newb. I don't know what reboot to recovery is. And don't know how to root to /sdcard. Do you need to be rooted for this?

If you're a complete noob then it's probably best you wait for the OTA update to reach your phone.

Need someone that knows how to hex edit the su binary in like with the original root, since the 2.0.1 recovery has the same exploit, you can use a hex edited update.zip like we did for 2.0.1 that has both the update and su, so you get 2.1, and root, then just got to reflash sprecovery and rename the recovery-from-boot.p file again and good to go.

So is there 5 or 7 screens or still just 3?

Frustratingly, only 3 screens. The official update will only be 3 screens.

I'm going to repeat that so we don't have to hash it over and over.
IN THE OFFICIAL BUILD:
YES YOU GET LIVE WALLPAPER.
THE NUMBER OF SCREENS DOES NOT CHANGE. STILL ONLY 3.

kthxbye

Gator, how's the speed of the Droid with 2.1

I heard some people said it feels slower than it did with stock 2.0.1

Care to share your thoughts on it?
