Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

So I assume there is no flash player with 2.1? Thats the only damn thing I wanted! Foiled again!!

Why do people think 2.1 has anything to do with Flash? Adobe is the maker of Flash, which is a completely different company than Google.

Well technically, Google, Verizon, and Motorola are ALL different companies, the thing they share in common is they are working together. Therefor even though I knew the 2.1 update would not automatically bring Flash, the argument is valid. Getting Flash to work on Android devices without a hitch will likely require some collaborative efforts on both Adobe and Google's part...

let me clarify - maybe this file is their update, but I'll wait for it to come OTA so if it borks the phone I'm covered more assuredly.

same here no rush
i did the update posted here, its legit, official, same as the pics of the official OTA, no difference. all is good, if you want it get it. dont wait... all works well.. increased signal strength as well for me at least. The clock is still the same, however. Not like the fancy one inthe cooked roms.

grab it up. its golden.... updated 3 phones with it this morning already...

Still waiting for the official release, just in case I jack something up.

Biggest thing I'm looking forward to is the pinch to zoom on the browser. Does that function just like the pinch to zoom on the maps? Can we zoom in further than we currently can? Somtimes the links are hard to hit when they are zoomed in on the current browser.

One question... Is this the same 2.1 that nexus has? because their 2.1 seems soo much better.

It isn' t the same 2.1 (the Nexus has more home screens and the 3D app drawer), but it is based on the same 2.1 code. I use Helix for more home screens and don't care abut the 3D app drawer (although Helix2 does have it) so I am happy with the update.

Just curious.
Has anyone installed this update and then successfully gone back to root? thx.

Yes , 3 times now . You have to flash your phone with RDSLite back to 2.0.1 so you can root . There isn't a root for 2.1 yet , they fixed the hole .

Please vote for some real problems to be fixed , like improving the software for low light camera , not those live wallpaper crap . Maybe then you will be more impressed with the next update
Issue 5386 - android - Video recorder dims camera in low light rather than brightening it - Project Hosting on Google Code

they just plugged that ONE hole, im certain that someone will find the OTHER hole and exploit it for root!
then I will be overclockin... at least to 700 this is choppy....

Its been rooted....sort of.

I would, but don't take it as gospel. Its your call :)

I'm seriously considering it. I've had some weird issues with my Droid lately and would like a fresh start. I'm the kind of person that's always reformatting their computer, though. I searched the forums and didn't really find detailed information about what data disappears and what data I should back up. I guess it will be a crapshoot. I just hope that Swype works after the reset and that my game stats aren't all wiped out. Thanks!

As long as you have been backing up your data to google's servers (under privacy settings, it will restore a lot once you factory reset. But you will have to re-setup your google account info, etc, and reinstall apps that the backup doesn't catch. Your paid apps will be linked under downloads in the market.
I can't seem to find "I Music Tao" by Green code. Every other paid app was under the download section. Do you or anyone know how I can get my paid app back?

On topic, congrats to all who got the update.

I did a search in market place for helix2, nothing came up.
questions:
Do I have to be rooted to use helix2?
Will helix2 work with the new 2.1?
Where can I get it?

Thanks

I have had a few issues in the market. When I download something and am typing it shuts the field down when the download finishes - but I am using a non stock keyboard.

I still want to know what people are seeing when they go into dock mode. Mine is the APK version that was out - goes to darker and then green moving clock.

I'm the most conservative person on here but I did it myself... why? Because I was here for 2.01 and all the people who did that had no problems.

So far everything works great.

Yeah same here. I just don't feel like taking any chances. Besides, it's been this long, what does a few more days matter?

Helix2 will not work on this. No 2.1 launcher will.
