Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Who's idea is it to merge all 2.1 things into one thread? I am sorry, but I have been running forums for almost 10 years and this makes finding things VERY difficult.

Software Schedule:
Below is the software-upgrade notification schedule (All times listed are Eastern Time):

  • At noon on 03/30, 1,000 users will receive notification of the update.
  • At 11:59 PM on 03/30, 9,000 more users will receive the update notification.
  • After the first 10,000 users receive the update on 03/30, there will be a 24-hour period when no additional upgrades will be delivered.
  • On Day 3 (04/01), 200,000 users will receive the update notification at 11:59 PM. This schedule will continue each day thereafter until the update has been delivered to all users.

Ok this is a little confusing, it says a 24 hour waiting period, which would be tonight at 11:59 PM EST. But they say April 1st, which would be tomorrow night at 11:59 PM EST...

I am assuming they are counting tonight at 11:59 PM EST as 04/01. . which is 24 hours..

I think that's exactly how I read it. 11:59 pm tomorrow night EST.

It makes it easier to find it this way instead of a whole page of the same questions.

Im thinking it will be tonight, for us who didnt jump on the update yet.. this is what happens when procrastination and lazy meet :)

Fixes that I've noticed :

Battery life improved - drastically.

Screen changed in unknown ways - but it's more sensitive to light and seems much sharper.

Speed about the same but running animated wallpapers at same time.

Screen more sensitive to touch when hitting apps and widgets.

Im sorry, but I didn't save my links from 4 months ago related to this issue. I don't have the time while at work to dig through this. Most of it is going to be long gone because it has since been updated, but I'm sure it could be found. I think it was Adobe's date for release as the Droid was already capable of running it when it is made available, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not the only one that saw this. It is referenced all over the place, and even stories now about how the date promised is going to pass, etc. It's common knowledge, and I'm not going to debate it.

It isn't impatience. People replace their phones every year or two... most of us more frquently. The phone was advertised to have Flash support and a promise of end of Q1 was given for it. Today is the last day of Q1, and it's not here. I don't want to wait until Im ready for a new phone to get Flash support for the Droid. It's really not all that complex of an issue. I don't like it when promises aren't kept. Espeically when my money is involved.

Lack of 3 home screens bugs the piss out of me, but it's not anything they've ever promised. Live wallpapers are also not an issue for me, so I'd have rather they worked on the former than the latter. Rotating desktop as well. The other aspects of this update are great. I think I'm going to wait for a DroidMod release of it though.

Promised in first quarter? I remember promised in first half. Now I could very well be wrong about that, so shoot me a link showing first quarter and I'll buy that.

You're both right. Up until early December 09 Adobe was saying Q1 2010. But in early December they changed the window to "first half of 2010". Now if you go to get.adobe.com/flashplayer from your Droid it just says it's not available for your device with no projected date. So
As for advertisements of Flash support, I don't recall ever seeing any official Verizon or Motorola advertisement making such claims. Not saying they don't exist, just never saw one. Now tech websites did indeed make the point that flash support was coming but not official communication from either company.

I applied the manual update and the ONE thing I was not concerned about has ended up being pretty cool - live wallpapers. Not all of them, mind you, but I'm really digging the minimalism of the polar clock. I've noticed no lags in using it either. Battery drain is still TBD.

Twice, though, when I've placed my droid in the media dock and removed it, it has wiped my screen clean of any and all icons/widgets. A power down and back up brings them back to their place, but it's a drag. Could this be a bug?

As far as Flash Player goes for the Droid, I have always assumed it would be sometime mid summer before it was available. I distinctly remember reading that Adobe would probably release it sometime in the first half of 2010.....there is still 3 months to go.

I cannot believe that the VZW Support Twitter page is saying there is no release date for the update. It's pretty obvious that it's out there. Apparently someone over there didn't get the memo.
