Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Hey guys, I successfully updated to Android 2.1 on my Motorola Droid but did anyone notice that it's a bit laggier when using live wallpapers on it? When I use non-live wallpapers, it doesn't lag, but if I do, there is a noticeable lag.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Yes, I've noticed it with some live wallpapers not all of them though.

Let me clear that up, the only place I notice lag, is when I open the app drawer on helix launcher and scroll through the apps. It's not horrible though.

I am running 5 screens on Helix and running live wallpapers with NO lag.

Keep in mind if you run a program like Helix to make sure the widgets on your original home screen have been deleted or they will run also slowing you down.

Oh snap...glad you said that. In my excited I didn't clear my stocker home screens. Thanks for that reminder! btw Helix owns

I love the Water live wallpaper and that's what I've been running.

Yeah the app drawer is laggy but I don't use it enough to care that much. I have a whole helix screen if I need more shortcuts and have all my games in a folder.

+1 Thanks for the reminder. I had a few widgets that were still on my stock screen that I forgot about.

Wow, good thinking. Never thought to remove the old widgets. Glad you posted this.

Let me get this straight....I'm rooted now with BB and smoked glass. Am I still gonna get the OTA pshed to my phone? If so, if I deny it, is there a way I can still get it down the road if I decide to?

Yes, I'm happy. I was happy with 2.0.1. As far as Flash goes, it's still coming. People are just so impatient.:)

Since everyone seems to forgot, here is what comes with 2.1:

Ya, but what is included in behind the scenes things? Such as fix for links and imbedded pics in the Gmail app. Anyone know?

Okay, I will go for a third time. Anyone know the list of other items fixed that Verizon did not publish? I hear rumors of better programming of the radio and such. I thought I remembered 2.0.1 update we had a bigger list of bug fixes that was not published publicly by Verizon.

Someone has to have this!

Software Schedule:
Below is the software-upgrade notification schedule (All times listed are Eastern Time):

  • At noon on 03/30, 1,000 users will receive notification of the update.
  • At 11:59 PM on 03/30, 9,000 more users will receive the update notification.
  • After the first 10,000 users receive the update on 03/30, there will be a 24-hour period when no additional upgrades will be delivered.
  • On Day 3 (04/01), 200,000 users will receive the update notification at 11:59 PM. This schedule will continue each day thereafter until the update has been delivered to all users.

Ok this is a little confusing, it says a 24 hour waiting period, which would be tonight at 11:59 PM EST. But they say April 1st, which would be tomorrow night at 11:59 PM EST...

I am assuming they are counting tonight at 11:59 PM EST as 04/01. . which is 24 hours..

Im sorry, but I didn't save my links from 4 months ago related to this issue. I don't have the time while at work to dig through this. Most of it is going to be long gone because it has since been updated, but I'm sure it could be found. I think it was Adobe's date for release as the Droid was already capable of running it when it is made available, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not the only one that saw this. It is referenced all over the place, and even stories now about how the date promised is going to pass, etc. It's common knowledge, and I'm not going to debate it.

It isn't impatience. People replace their phones every year or two... most of us more frquently. The phone was advertised to have Flash support and a promise of end of Q1 was given for it. Today is the last day of Q1, and it's not here. I don't want to wait until Im ready for a new phone to get Flash support for the Droid. It's really not all that complex of an issue. I don't like it when promises aren't kept. Espeically when my money is involved.

Lack of 3 home screens bugs the piss out of me, but it's not anything they've ever promised. Live wallpapers are also not an issue for me, so I'd have rather they worked on the former than the latter. Rotating desktop as well. The other aspects of this update are great. I think I'm going to wait for a DroidMod release of it though.

Promised in first quarter? I remember promised in first half. Now I could very well be wrong about that, so shoot me a link showing first quarter and I'll buy that.

No, most custom ROMs block OTA updates.

And yes, if you deny it you can get it anytime you want it manually.
