Another Bionic that can't get a data connection... no 4G/3G/1X signal.. only wifi...

ILast night I went to bed with full 3G and this morning, it was gone. I've done multiple power downs, toggled Airplane mode, pulled the battery, and performed a complete rendition of Napoleon Dynamite's dance routine with a live cat draped over my left shoulder, but data is not coming back.
Right. Which is exactly why I said in my post that, even though my phone seems to have locked itself in 3G mode, it hasn't dropped data for 3 or 4 days now. I'll take that trade for now, and hopefully the update will be here soon and clear all this up.

Anyone ever consider that they are taking their time to resolve the issues?? Would you rather them rush it and do it wrong?

Its wrong already you think they can make it worse. They are just waiting to see if anytbing else goes wrong before they do update Im sure it costs thrm money every time they do an update and money talks

Yea and I think they are making sure they are doing it right, in which you are partially right, evaluating all the feedback/complaints, which is the right thing to do. I'd rather wait and have an update that works than one they rushed out without proper testing.

I not. I'm not thinking anything about VZW schedule as I can not control it. I am thinking about what work arounds might be available until the fix is out

Nothing at all wrong with finding workarounds, which have all been posted. But in the end, do you want an upgrade that doesn't fix everything so we can have more of these threads or do you want an upgrade that fixes these issues? It's common sense...

I have not mentioned ANYTHING about wanting the up grade now. It comes when it comes and none of us can control that. I am just saying telling people to wait for an upgrade that may or may not come on any given date is not as productive as providing the upgrade info with a work around that might help them limp through until the glorious coming

Ah ok gotcha.. I misinterpreted ..my bad :)

Rush it?? You can't seriously be suggesting "Rush" and "Bionic" belong in the same sentence? Moto's had since what... January?? April at the latest to get the software correct?

Moto has simply dropped the ball big time with a bug this glaring. There's no way to sugar coat that.

Rushed. Haha! That made me laugh good!

We are talking about two totally different things. This is NOT going to turn into what the other threads turned into. I simply stated that I'd rather them take their time with the fix then rush one out. As posted before and keep it in mind, wish any new phone, if you buy it as soon as it's released, you're a beta tester. Show me one specific thread from any phone, moto or not, that hasn't had bugs. Do you own a Bionic?

deja vu... sounds like the Thunderbolt when it came out

The LTE phones use a "different" kind of 3G, or a layer on top of the evdo 3G to help the handoff between 3G and 4G go faster - eHRPD. That's why the earlier poster's Bionic's 3G wasn't working while his wife's iPhone 4 was. That's also why, when there's a nationwide LTE outage, 3G doesn't work on these LTE devices.

Back when I had the Bolt, switching the 3G connection back to evdo from eHRPD helped with some of the problems, but it did slow down the handoff between 4G/3G. I was convinced then, and I still am now, that a majority of the problems are making the network work right. Yes, the phone's are where the buck stops, but clearly they haven't perfected how to best utilize the network in these small devices. Verizon's LTE is the fastest of all the carriers, and is "true" 4G. Even though we don't like it, we're early adopters of this very new and very complex technology. That's not an excuse, but I think it's simply a reality that VZW's marketing department knows nothing about, and if they can make it work "good enough", then they'll get by until the tech, or network, is more mature.

I do own a Bionic, but look... I know you're a moderator, but frankly, I'm a little irritated that you think I (and others with this problem) should be happy just to be a proud owner of a Bionic, regardless of whether it actually works or not.

When you buy a car, would you be happy if the salesman told you, "Oh, you want tires on it so you could actually drive it? Those won't be in for 2 more months. Sorry, but you wouldn't want them to RUSH those tires and get the wrong size do you?"

People are pretty miffed about this problem that makes a difference between a really nice phone, and a really nice hockey puck. Quit telling people we're being unreasonable by having expected this thing to work from Day 1.

If I had a dime for all the times I've posted this... yet it still makes me lol:

I don't recall me ever saying you should be happy just to be the proud owner of one, if I did, please point it out to me. I am as irritated as the rest of you, but complaining about it isn't going to solve anything, they already addressed the issue and stated they are working on it.

We aren't motorola engineers, we don't know what the problem is that is causing these issues. Simply what I stated was that I would rather them take their time and do it right, try and correct a wrong, instead of jerry rigging something that could lead to more problems.

As for me being a mod has nothing to do with this. I'm a member just like everyone else. I suffer the data loss also, I'm on the same side as you. I think you misinterpreted me saying I am happy with the Bionic with your quote "I'm a little irritated that you think I (and others with this problem) should be happy just to be a proud owner of one, regardless of whether it actually works or not." which I'll repeat, I never said. We are all a little miffed at this, but this subject has been discussed over and over again and nothing different is going to change until we see the update. Hopefully we will see it sooner or later...

Ok, I stretched it a little by saying you think we should be "happy"... :) Apologies.

But you did say that we are Beta Testers, and while at best, I might agree with that sentiment on minor glitches, this issue is not a minor glitch... and at worst, I would disagree with that sentiment because I bought this phone so that it would "control all other phones"... without data connection, all those iPhone losers are laughing at me because I cannot control squat. :p

I agree nothing can be done about this until the software update arrives, but a lot of folks are just now realizing their phone doesn't connect to the worlds largest and fastest network, no matter what they try... and they come on this forum looking for answers and maybe even a chance just to vent. I don't think it's unreasonable to give these folks a chance to blow off some steam over this... but making it sound like we aren't satisfied in learning that this problem won't be fixed for another month maybe, probably only creates more steam that needs to be blown off.
