Apparent GPS Failure

Still having the same issue here in Florida but NOT a former Alltel customer. New replacement droid should show up today, but I doubt that it'll make a difference. I think the aGPS issue is hitting more than just the former Alltel folks.

I agree, since I've had two failures myself and have nothing to do with Alltel. After I got mine going after the second time, I have since turned off location by Wireless Networks. Low and behold, my GPS acquisition is about half the time now (about 5 secs). Go figure.

once again, i greatly appreciate the continued discourse
i surely hope the big firmware update will fix this issue

it's becoming NATIONALLY KNOWN that the droid has big gps problems.
that doesn't help move units
if they have a fix... they ought to bring it to the table IMMEDIATELY....

motorola and verizon want to be iPhone killers....
time to fix this issue..... NOW

Google Maps and navigation

Google maps worked great until it decided my location was in India !!!!!
Opened maps and hit the my location and it showed i was in India, I was like WAAAAAAAAA! Called tech support and they had no idea. So i reset it back to factory and it did fix it but i had to download all my apps again. I love google maps and the Navigator but i cant seem to figure out how to save a location as a favorite. Anyone have any ideas on this? :motdroidhoriz:

What's odd to me, is that you had to re-download your apps. Did you uninstall them in Android Market prior to your Reset?

For saving favorites, install the Google My Maps Editor app. You can place mark anywhere on earth and it will also appear as a Layer on your Maps app.

i didn't uninstall them in Android Market prior to the Reset. I was surprised to see that all my contacts were saved since a Verizon tech stated they would be erased, as is well now!

Don't know what its worth but I just recalled someing I ran across recently. .when I first got my Storm a month or so ago I was told the visual voicemail would not work for former alltel users.
Not sure of any correlation, but thought it worth mentioning.

That's half BS. It will not work if you are still on an Alltel plan. It will work, if you switch to a full fledged VZW plan.

You know, when I got my DROID and wanted to get VVM, they let me add it, but it didn't work for a couple days. You have to be willing to work with them on this though for it to work though. Our local voicemail boxes were converted from the Alltel System to the VZW system the weekend before I got my Droid and switched to a VZW plan. However, our voicemail accounts had a glitch. Even though our Voicemail showed it was converted to VZW, the routing for transfering our calls there still pointed to the Alltel side of things. And this made it so our Visual Voicemail would not work.
The solution for me and the very patient Tech support guy I was on the phone with for 3 hours was: Delete both Alltel and VZW voicemail accounts, then add back the VZW account, then change the routing to point to the newly created VZW voicemail account w/ provisioning for VVM. After that it worked perfectly.
