Apparent GPS Failure

re-downloaded "GPS STATUS"
not seeing any satellites, at all

gotta love this issue
come on verizon..... love the phone
you know how to fix this issue.... please do it

I have the PRL that Verizon wants me to use on my desktop, now I'm trying to figure out how to flash it to my droid. Anyone good with this? using RSD lite or something similar?

nope.....
didn't work
old alltel customer
updated "alltel-based" PRL
still no gps
in the grand scheme of things in this life.... IRRELEVANT
but..... MADDENING, nonetheless

i wouldn't do that....
might screw up the whole phone
there is more to changing a phone from ALLTEL TO VERIZON than a PRL... i'm sure

I have the 51638 PRL and live in the Tampa area. I have been with Verizon for many years. GPS has always worked exceptionally well.

I feel bad for those of you that have had issues - that sucks. And, I'm sorry, but I can't help but feel like I finally got something as a reward for being a long-time customer! For those of you with issues, though, I really do hope that Verizon gets this sorted out quickly.

Perhaps it is a sign and you should consider moving to the location DROID indicates.

did 30049 help you?
it did NOT, me

nope. i tested it on the way to work this evening (from NW Tampa to downtown St Pete on 275-S). over the how/frank, i had 0/2 sats on GPS STATUS that i lost once i hit Pinellas. at 54th ave, i had 0/10 sats that went to 0/0 after a mile. then up to 0/2 at 22nd ave until i walked into work.
on the way home, i was on the phone. i kept checking, never indicated any sats during the drive.

guess i'll have to go to the VZW store to see if they can manually program the 51638 PRL into the phone instead of just allowing the phone to update the Alltel PRL OTA?
then again, if it was THAT easy, wouldn't they have already figured that out? will have to check after the holiday.

i just did another trip from tampa to clearwater via courtney-campbell with the same results: halfway across going westbound, suddenly locked onto 10 sats. picked up my friend to take her to the tampa airport that is JUST south of my house. even parked at the airport departure area, i was still locked onto 4 sats. now i'm home and locked to 9 sats. i figure once i shut down the GPS STATS program, android will conserve battery by letting go of the sats ...then it will reset and not work again until i leave the area.

...rules out a hardware glitch since it is constantly doing the same thing.
it must be losing nominal connection with an Alltel tower near my house, and then grabbing onto the first available tower (VZW) in Pinellas as i cross the bridge. i'm just confused why a satellite has anything to do with the tower - why does the Droid's GPS chip need A-GPS?

WIKIPEDIA: Some phones with GPS capability work by assisted GPS (A-GPS) only, and do not function when out of range of their carrier's cell towers. Others can navigate worldwide with satellite GPS signals as a dedicated portable GPS receiver does, upgrading their operation to A-GPS mode when in range.
