Apparent GPS Failure

Worked with Verizon Mgmt and one of their Data Support consultants. They confirmed that the issue is with the Alltel towers and the AGPS syncing. Ironically, the Alltel towers use Motorola switches and the Verizon towers use Alcatel ones. They are supposed to be making a push to my phone within the next 48 hours that will put me exclusively on Verizon towers. This should fix the GPS issue but will also affect voice quality and signal in the more rural areas, until the Alltel issue is resolved and everyone is pointed to all of the towers. As noted earlier, I had changed my phone number to a VZW number to avoid these issues. VZW called me back up later today and asked if I would like my old number back, if they could retrieve it. As I have already sent out my new number, I declined, but I thought it was a nice gesture on their part.
I will post again when the push occurs. I am also trying to get them to set up a way for everyone who wants to have this done can.
let me ask you this:
after i get the PUSH.....
i ought NOT to EVER do a *228 again.... right?
because that will negate the push..... right?

thanks

Well guys i got my GPS working, for good. Locks every time now in Tampa /w an Alltel plan and phone number. The solution was as people were speculating. I swapped my Alltel PRL for the newest Verizon PRL 51716. This fixed my GPS, now i get a lock in seconds.

The steps to change the PRL are not that hard, but a bit technical (and much easier of you have used QPST before).
that is NOT a hybrid prl.... right?

I would love to know how to go about getting that PRL pushed to me or be able to do a self set up.

Money off my account. I have been an alltel customer for at least 5 years. Always did my part and paid my bills on time. Due to the GPS not functioning I contacted customer service, and after about 4 people and 1 hr I got my 30 day return agreement extended for another 30 days and recieved 50.00 off my bill. I recommend everyone hit them where it hurts to get this resolved. The GPS is mostly why I bought this thing.

Tried the new PRL

OK - Called VZ and got a nice rep on the phone. SHe agreed to block the hybrid PRL I was getting and push the VZ PRL. I called *228 - reprogrammed the phone and got the new VZ PRL listed above. STILL NO GPS. I rebooted the phone, stood outside with gooogle maps and it is still saying Searching for GPS.

Former Alltel now VZ plan. Kept Alltel number that I have had for 15 years.

Thats weird, I have been getting GPS whenever within 4 seconds since i changed it.

Tried new PRL again

OK - I stand corrected. I made the phone go through programming again (*228) and voila - IT LIVES!! First time since I bought it over a month ago that it connects to GPS within my home area. Now it is da bomb. I was really upset about this GPS thing but loved the rest of the phone.

After 2 more calls, opening a ticket and getting told I could not get a VZW prl. Wham 65073 works! Google NAV is great! Now if we can just change the voice! ;-)

GREAT NEWS GUYS!

The VZW people I have been working with have isolated the problem and will have a fix soon, maybe tonight!
They determined that the coordinates that they were reporting was reporting as a negative instead of a positive, throwing everything off 180 degrees, (their quote).

They have already moved me to a VZ only PRL but reccomend to move me back to the hybrid once they push the global fix to ensure good voice quality on calls.
My current PRL is now 65073 and I am able to GPS connect here at my office in Tampa, where I've never been able to connect previously.
I will be doing more testing tomorrow with them and will send another update.
I would reccomend everyone retest their connectivity tomorrow...

Edit - Didn't see the recent threads above. Looks like the push was done already...
