Apparent GPS Failure

i agree, this seems to be verizon related not motorola. What is scary is verizon seems to be pushing this off to motorola which means a solution is getting farther away. i really believe bad PR is our only hope of not getting left behind. That is why i keep posting here and will tell anyone i can about this problem.Hopefully it will become enough of an embarrassment something will get done.Shame is a powerful tool

100% AGREE
after monday
when i truly am on a verizon contract
keeping the same number... but having a PRL which gives me verizon tower priority....
if i have gps... great
if i don't...

it might be time to look to another company for my cell phone needs, at THIS point
i'll keep you informed

Just make sure you get a Verizon prl. If its in the 65xxx area its a hybrid and will still prefer Alltel. If I must go to this extreme as well so be it. But granted I wont go away quietly.

Hopefully this will work for you. I was supposedly switched to a complete Verizon status when I bought the Droid and switched the phone number to a VZW one but obviously that was not the case. I imagine I won't hear back from the VZW person I've been working with until Monday.
I also am getting a hybrid PRL in the 65XXX range. I do get some connectivity in and around the Tampa Bay area but it works only about 15% of the time. Once it locks on though it will stay connected until I close out all of the GPS apps.
I should have some sort of update on Monday...

please remind me the PRL numbers that will actually BE a verizon one

thank you

it's monday for me, too
but now....
i think i heard him mention i'm getting a HYBRID PRL
why can't i have a FULL VERIZON PRL, if this HYBRID one won't work, either

hmmmmmmm
i'll call him first thing on monday and figure this out
i happen to have the day off

It has been over one week, and changing my plan and tel number to verizon from alltel has solved the gps problem completely in Polk county, FL, which was working horribly before.

so......
you HAD to change your telephone number?
i won't do that
if verizon can't find a way to "MAKE" my alltel number recognized as a verizon number... and give me a PRL that will allow me to have full gps... i'll be going to another carrier

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW, VERIZON?

I am not sure that I HAD to change my tel number...but I was so fed up with dealing with Verizon...it was either that or get rid of the droid, and I wanted this problem to go away!

that sounds more than reasonable to me
i appreciate this clarification
thank you

Wow!! I just read this whole thread.

I am having the same problem with my droid.
I have had the phone since black Friday and have never had a sat signal.

Ex Alltel from Tampa (Carrollwood)

well...
don't hold your breath
it really doesn't even seem that verizon is working on this problem, AT ALL

i know this sounds like a broken record from me, but: if this problem were happening in NYC.... it would have been FIXED, ALREADY.... i'm positive

good luck

Glad that has worked out for you, I did the same thing with no change. Even though they changed the phone number and plan to strictly Verizon, I am still getting the "hybrid" PRL and rarely connect (GPS) in the Tampa Bay area. If they do make changes Monday to resolve the problem, I will post as much information as I can get to help everyone out.

what i wonder is how we can make verizon give us a REAL PRL, instead of some HYBRID one?

I am going to a store on Monday to get the 51683 PRL
Thta is the one that works.
I have 65073
I will see if the can push the 51683 number to me,I hope it works.
