Battery life

been doing a lot of tweaking and experimenting over the past 13 days and i am now at 16 hours with 40% of battery left...did one battery condition cycle on the first day...i had juice defender and smart actions running at the same time and that was just not working....jd seemed to confuse the sa so i removed it and am now running just sa...i also switched my work email to update at 5 mins instead of push...no widgets at all that need updating except beautiful widgets for my home screen but that updates when the screen comes on....i am now going to try sydman's advice and turn off the bg sync and cell data while the screen is off...that should save me a bunch more...also..it is am switching between 4g...3g.. and wifi a lot depending on where i am..

I'm a bionic owner. Extremely happy. My buddy bought the razr and its great except 1 thing-battery life. He must carry a charging cord constantly with him. My bionic gets 8-15 hours with 4g. Then I can just pop in my extra battery. On 3g, I can go all day and this is with above average use. What was moto thinking?

Something sounds wrong there. My razr gets about double the battery life that my D1 got. Perhaps your buddy has something running that is draining his battery.

I've had my Razr for a day now and I must say I'm having awesome battery life on 4G. What I love so far is when I'm at work it throttles down 3G cause of the hanger I work in and doesn't try to reach out to 4G till I exit the hanger. My battery lasted almost a whole day yesterday on a full charge

mine are pretty basic..i think..i have seen some guys on here get very elaborate with their settings...

trigger is home...actions...bluetooth off...gps off..cell data disable

car..bluetooth on..gps on..

location work...bluetooth off..gps off...

and my lastest one...display off...bg sync off...cell data disable..

Yeah that background sync and cell data should really help you out, I am 1 day 11 min and 59 secs on battery and it is down to 60& left. It was 70% when I went to sleep last night around 3am and just woke up and it was still at 70%, it finally dropped because I was surfing the internet and playing Wordfued so it dropped a little. I am going to see if I can make it all day until I can get it to a charger tonight.

sounds good to me...thanks for the info..one question...will i get any notifications(led light) at all while the screen is off...text..emails..?..

You will get text notifications and phone calls, but emails don't push through instantly. When I woke up this morning I did have some emails on my phone so they do come through it just takes awhile. But as soon as you turn your screen on it syncs and emails come through instantly. For me I don't get any emails that are really needed instantly so it has been ok, would much rather have the longer battery life.

thanks again..i am more concerned with the texts getting thru than anything else...i think this is gonna be a huge battery saving tweak...

Simple question. Why are Smart Actions even necessary? I am in a 3G area so have the phone set to CDMA only. I came from an OG Droid and never had to worry about this crap. What is it about this operating system that burns thru the battery when not on 4G? Hell, even when I have the phone either shut down or just airplane mode activated this phone goes thru the battery to the tune of 20-30% after a few hours. What the hell is going on in there?

With one simple smart action my phone made it all night not charging and didn't drop even 10% so I wouldn't call these things "crap". I would call them a way to deal with the fact that these phones are so advanced and the batteries are still catching up plain and simple.

i am trying to figure out a way to answer the question he asked differently or better than you did...but i cant...that sums it up just right...

Yeah it is just the way it is with these new phones. They do everything we want but that has to come at a cost of battery life. The last phone I had that I could go 3 days on one charge and not have to limit my usage was my Blackberry Curve 8330. I will take dual cores, 1gb of RAM, amazing apps, and a sexy phone as the Razr over that anyday.
