Bionic build 5.9.901....Initial impressions......and what we know so far

Well I think it is safe to say after 35 pages of posts and the numerous other threads on this and other forums that:

Build 5.9.901 is an overwhelming success!!!!! There are a few that have had some problems, but the vast majority agrees that 901 is great!!!!!!

Moto/VZW really need to just go ahead and release the update to everyone.

Wow!!!! This thread has had 21,500 views and it's only been up for a week! That's crazy!

Ya, lol. I think moto can go ahead and skip the soak test on this one, plenty of data in this thread alone!

Not sure I want to go through all 35 pages, but... lets say 901 is NOT the official release and we all get screwed like the 5.7.893 update and have to reflash the radio. Do we have that ability to reflash with .901 back to the stock radio to get back on the OTA path?

Unless I miss my guess, since they did send it out to some users, they will have to support it and issue a patch to update.

Yep, with the one click script that P3Droid and the guys at rootzwiki developed. But it will be supported, they can't send it out OTA and then not support it.

They could send an incremental to just the imei numbers they sent 901 to. I doubt it, that would be complicated and prone to error. either way we will get that the same way we got 901.

That's why I didn't even bother to mention the possibility.

I'd like to report I successfully kept root by going from .886 factory stock, to .893, and immediately to .901 via FOREVER ROOT.

I'd recommend anyone with errors:

Start from .886 first, upgrade to .893 THEN upgrade to .901. I did this by doing a factory reset on .893...then reverting to .886 via Forever Root's program. Then forever rooting on .886. Then upgrading to .893, then to .901.

It's long and annoying, but I realized the cleanest way for me to do OTA/Leaked Updates is factory resets. I modify too many things to remember what I modified on my device.

JCW122, I did similar, went from leaked .7.893 used P3s fix to (After factory reset) 5.5.903 then for3v3r root then 901 (simply used the build in recovery and flashed) rebooted, let it sit, then installed bionic safestrap, then format system, cache, dalvik then a modded kin3t[x] (found on rootzwiki) then reboot, wait a bit then recovery, wipe cache and dalvik then blurr addon, then reboot. Did not use TIBU to restore any data except some games. Used AppExtractor to restore wifi and bluetooth, SMS, the rest installed clean. ALL WORKING GREAT. Only data drop is verizon now, 3g solid, 4g solid and hands off much better, everything is working well. Now when Dhacker29 gets ICS full blown,, life will really be good.
I did find doing the 5.5.893 to 901 without forever root a bad idea, lost root, it said I had root but it did not work. P3 does have a way back down to 5.5.893 also, you have to run a fix file after the install or you get issues trying to downgrade. Otherwise it works perfectly.

Guys... is it normal for the android os to be drawing this much power?

Keep in mind that this display does not show how much battery was used, only that 56% of what battery was used went to the OS. It will always add up to 100%. I am more worried when I see 60% going to some other app. Then you have a problem.

I focus more on how many seconds of cpu goes to different programs.

personally, I pay very little attention to what's actually consuming the battery unless I have abnormal battery drain.

Now if an app was taking up that much battery, I might be a little concerned.

Normally I see that Screebl Pro is running 75%, but their website says it's an error in the OS that causes that. Now the OS shows what you're showing. But battery life has improved so I'm looking at 20+ hours, which is enough for me.

No issues with 901.. Been running for a week now. Battery at first sucked but calibrated it and now great.

I have a question guys , if im 4ever rooted but did so then updated to 893. When the official OTA update for the 901 comes out will I be able to take the update and still be rooted ?

I kept root when I did that then applied 893 then 901 update. Of course I used the link to get 901. I kept root no problem.
