CyanogenMod 7 for Droid 2 Global [Beta]

Also one of the bugs is that in this build, the phone reads as a droid 2 instead of a droid 2 global, can't that just be changed in the build.prop?

Thats a yes and no answer. Theres parts of it that that will fix however theres also parts that it wont. For instance, it reads sensors under sensors.droid2.so but not under sensors.droid2we.so because its essentially a d2 but with the better processor and different kernel. So yes, you can change the few lines in build.prop however that will only change the display and what the phone says it is and not any of the internal workings.

Hope that clarifies some.

Been thinking that D2 not D2G issue over and read something on thre D2 thread that said something about merging the Build.prop into the CM7 system someplace.

I'm guessing that there is a file in CM7 that does similar things as Build.prop does only it is for CM only.

This is excellent. after 2 days the only problems I have to report are that portrait mode (yes I know the sensors) and wifi do not work for me. the wifi is frustrating actually....

screenshot... loving it!

Big thanks to 13th and EVERYONE who has made this possible. :)

Swirly,
Hey man I like that. Can you help me set up my launcher like that ( HTC sense)? And I'm using the sense theme for cm from nt.

Next, about the sensors. Here is some info. I am using the older version (before 13th posted update, because I was and then flashed 13thsupdate) and my screen orientation was screwed. Only way I could get it correct was with keyboard open. So re downloaded and flashed currentweb alpha cm7.1 and back to working properly. Thought might be interesting. Plus my camera is screwed up (not my camcorder, the actual camera is like a mirrored image always, any help?)

Thanks.

both are known and noted in the OP on the Rootz post....

Hey Everybody,

Great work to everyone involved in this release. I followed the instructions in the OP to install the latest build earlier today. Everything seems to be great minus the small bugs that are already known, for the most part.

I am having an issue with the android process.media force closing though. I have gotten the message randomly (while just sitting on the home screen) since I flashed.

I did some searching and followed directions to clear data from the media storage, which seemed to fix this issue for certain people. After doing so I am not receiving the error as often , but I have gotten the message a time or 2 since.

Anyone else having this issue and know a different fix?

Also, I have seen users of this reporting battery life of around 10 hours. Mine is a lot worse than that for some reason. It went from 50% to 20% in about 2 hours and I wasn't using it at all.

I was using fission 2.4.3 before wiping data and cache and flashing cm7. I am wondering if I should maybe sbf and then try again?

Edit: ok I just saw in my notification bar that I had updates. I went to market and chose to update all and the process.media force closes while trying to update any of the apps.

Edit 2- I did some more searching and realized my using the batch restore option on titanium backup was probably the culprit of the force close issue I was having. I re-wiped data and cache and reinstalled everything for cm7. Then I manually restored my apps and everything is better. Hoping that was the issue I was having with poor battery also. Almost up to full charge and I am going to see how it goes this time.

My battery life is livable
Theme back to white on black.

Just sorta hoping for a mms/pic/vid msg fix (or someone tell me what custom user agent to put into settings to make it work)
That droid2 thing, I hadnt noticed until I opened my TBH app and saw lots of choices (whoo-hoo!)....for the droid 2 (oh, duh). **I'm still kinda laughing at my lapse into stupid there**

Here's a messaging app fix .. same options .. welcome .

Anybody else have trouble with adding a gmail account? I couldn't. Also didn't see a market. Is there a patch for that? And how do you install it without bootstrapper?

You need the google apps package, its in the op in the link on the first post, where all the downloads are at, to get into clockwork recovery you just hold the power button, and tell it to reboot recovery, you DO NOT use the bootstrapper on CM

I'm sorry for the stupid question, but I'm still learning droid-isms and I'm kind of confused; is Cyanogenmod a rom? Or a mod that acts in conjunction with separate roms?

If the latter is true, after reading in an earlier post that Cyanogenmod is really a newer build of Android; Gingerbread without the wait, would roms built for Froyo not work with this?

Also, after doing a little research it seems other phones' battery performances see increases with the addition of Cyanogenmod so is it just that the D2Gs have terrible battery life to begin with?

Sorry again if these are dumb questions, just a little confused. Thanks to all the hard workers involved :)

Quick primer on Cyanogen....

Unlike the old ROMs from WM6, Android is a completely OPEN SOURCE project meaning the source code and base operating system is available for anyone in the world to make an OS for just about any device. Google posts the source and it's free as well as the SDK (Software Development Kit) that takes that source and compiles a working Operating System. Because of that open source designation we users have access to the source files at the same time as the manufacturers do!

In the past under WM5 and 6 we have had many chefs taking files from newer released phones and trying to incorporate them into a newer version of the ROM that came with our phone.

What is different about Cyanogen is that all the Devs who used to make their own flavored rom have gotten together and decided to make one GREAT Open Source user written rom. This is why so many phones are supported and why it has the most features of any ROM you might find. It is also why it has had Gingerbread long before it was released for many phones as the source code had been released by Google and used by the group. It also means they don't have to wait for the latest phone with the latest version to come out before they can work with those files. It is the first ROM I know of that really doesn't rely on the hardware manufacturers to release something to get the latest and greatest!
That worked in theory until the bootloaders started being locked by the hardware Manfacturers like Moto and HTC.

Because of that we can not simply flash our own Kernel into the unit and therefore have to Find/Create drivers that will work with the stock kernel that came with the phones.

DX and D2 both had a release of GB to work and draw files from. D2G currently has one promised but has not been released.
Once it is (or once the bootloader is unlocked) then CM7 will most likely ALWAYS be the latest and greatest version of android we can run.

No Manufacturer branding and bloat which reduces performance and drains battery time
Pure Google experience and compatibility.
Always the latest updates and optimizations made by Google to the source.
And more configuration options than you can swipe a stick at!

Open Source ROM means users can see, change, contribute, and improve any aspect of the phone.

So to answer the last poster's question...
CM7 is ROM. It is a rom written and created by and for the users!
And it is probably the best version of Android you will ever find.

Just wanting to get some comparison numbers. I had not re-installed set cpu after flashing cm7 to my d2g yesterday. I fully charged it before bed last night and when I got up this morning it was at 60% with no use. I think the time was around 8 and 1/2 hours from full charge. Is that similar to anyone else running this?

I have re-installed set cpu with my profiles and gonna check it again today/tonight.

Battery life is not very good on cm7. I had the same experiance of massive battery drain over night. This is still in the beta form. It is cm7 but not with its full potential. This is due to 1. No gingerbread to draw from. 2. The locked bootloader.
Its only a matter of time B4 the issues are worked out. 13thangel, bikedude and some others are working on the bugs. I think once we finally get our gb update we will see a fully functional rom in all its glory.

Ok, just wanted to make sure it was normal. I have chargers at home, car, and work due to the d2g's already known battery life issues anyway. I do look forward to future developments to cm7 for our devices though.

Definitely the most fun I've had setting up and customizing my phone in a while.
