Determining radio/kernel version

Hello,

I have just bought a Bionic from a friend who decided to switch to the RAZR. He had previously applied a radio/kernel upgrade to the phone, but he doesn't remember exactly which one. Since then he has flashed back to the stock image. Is there any way for me to figure out what kernel/radio are running on this and possibly upgrade? It looks like you need to do the upgrades in the right sequence, so I want to make sure I don't screw this phone up.

Thanks in advance!

I did a little bit more research, looks like I can tell by the baseband. Looks like the following firmware versions correspond to these baseband versions.

Stock (5.5.886) CDMA_N_03.1C.50R ltedc_u_05.15.00
5.5.893 CDMA_N_03.1C.57R ltedc_u_05.15.01
5.6.893 CDMA_N_03.1C.57R ltedc_u_05.15.02
5.7.893 CDMA_N_03.1C.57R ltedc_u_05.15.02

My baseband is CDMA_N_03.1C.57R ltedc_u_05.15.01, so I assume that he had flashed 5.5.893. My kernel is '2.6.35.7-g68606e6vwm@il93lnxdroid43 #1' which I assume is from that same upgrade. However, he did flash back to a stock system, so my system version is 5.5.886.

Now to figure out where to move from here.

there is nowhere to move from there. you're kernel and radio are as far as they can go with the update that was applied. you can flash a custom rom if you root your phone and thats about it.

I am in the same boat. would like to update to 5.7.893, but not able to. any suggestions?

There are no suggestions besides wait. It's currently not possible (because of a locked bootloader) to change your Kernel/Radio. If you aren't on stock Kernal/Radio you are **** out of luck.

I hate to be this blunt, but I've read this same question at least 50 times today. It's not unfair, it's what you SHOULD have known BEFORE flashing the leaked versions (or before a friend flashed it, whatever).

This is why people bold, highlight, italicize these disclaimers that most people just seem to scroll right on past because they want to do what everybody is currently talking about THIS SECOND just so they can say they did.

**** out of luck

for not wanting to be blunt your pretty ****ing good at it. fyi i'm a truck driver, but not completely stupid. i do have an A+ certification from microsoft. I'm just too old for that industry. as for not reading all the way through, i just don't have as much time on my hands, being that i have a job. actually even though your information was appreciated I would have preferred less smart*** and just the info. if you don't like guys like me then don't bother replying to me.

I disagree. I too am a truck driver. I have a BS in BIS from University of Phoenix that I obtained while being a t driver.

We are not too old for the industry. I had zero experience with Android. My first Android phone was the Bionic. Since getting the phone I have rooted and hacked and screwed it up and fixed and re-rooted.

B4 you pull the trigger on something you do to your phone KNOW your risks. Accept the risk and live w the results. But just know that these forums are here and that you mess up you might find an answer here.

Everything I've done to my phone I've done because I found advice here. Verizon customer support is for the lemmings.

For example I took the OTA 5.5.893. I lost root. I simply forgot to use Permaroot. I was able re-root because someone posted a solution.

I think all this will work itself out right before ICS is pushed to our phones. If you read the forums, you will find numerous posts by people getting the 5.5.893 update relating conversations with high level (not the folks that immediately take calls to CS) CSR's and they are saying that some folks will get 5.5.893, some will get 5.7.893 (manufacture date determines???) and that the phone has to be bone stock to get these update. Then they go on to say that everyone, without regard to the phone's condition, will get 5.8.894 right before ICS is pushed. So, it is my opinion, based of stuff I've read on the internet(!!!), that we will all get the 5.8.894. I think there are things in it that we are going to need for ICS and that Moto nor Verizon is going to leave us Leak Installers out in the cold. Just my opinion - an as I said, it's based on reading stuff on the internet!!

Good luck.
