Disrespectful Android Users

Status
Not open for further replies.
In the relatively short time I've participated in this forum I've only seen one truly disrespectful post about a newer themer. It was, let's say, less than constructive criticism. When the poster was rightfully called out by a number of people, he/she apologized. The mods have to be vigilant, but the forum seems to also be self regulating. I agree that making a blanket statement that android users have become disrespectful is a bit over the top.

I never thought I would say it, but the Android community is no better than the people we tend to make fun of, the Apple community.

To all you developers out there, thank you for your work. I'm sorry that we have really ungrateful people running amuck, but I appreciate all your hard work.

This thread can be closed. It's just going to turn into a flame war.

Android fanboys are far worse than apple ones man. That's just what it is. Android fanboys devote whole threads to bash apple and are constantly trying to prove why apple sucks

I still think you're being over dramatic though. This matt guy is also being a drama queen. And he'll be back. They always come back.

Most users of this forum respect the work of the devs. I don't have pity for a dev who quits because a few bother him or he doesn't become rich making roms. He's on the wrong os. If he wants to make money ios is where to be. If he's upset because a few people don't like his work, that's just silly.

I'm with everyone else. First, who is Matt? Second, for the most part Android users are pretty thankful to the devs of roms. Just because one guy is mad doesn't mean that the whole feels like that.

But to address your concern...all I use are free apps. I refuse to pay for apps. Plus I can block the ads with adblocker

I agree with not using paid apps.... i shouldnt have to pay for thr phone and then pay even more to get the functionality it should already have (TI and freezing apps comes to mind). I wouldnt mind just supporting them but some people just cant (im 18 and still in school, my parents pay for my phone).

Also, any coding i do is because i enjoy it which in my opinions is how it should be. You shouldnt do something just because you might make a few dollars off it, you should do it because you like to. /endrant

I kinda agree. To me, it depends on the price of the app. As a themer, I see how much time is invested in just doing that...apps are FAR more complex. If a dev prices an app at say 99¢ or $2, that's one thing; $10+ is just ridiculous IMHO!

...so don't use the paid apps. Many devs have free ones, with paid versions that have more functionality. If a $1.99 isn't worth the additional content then don't buy it. Free market economy, man.

I completely agree with this thread.

I have been a member for some time now and it seems more and more people will post negative comments about a ROM or a developer.
The people that bring us these great ROM's do it out of their love for the community and their love for writing code and just seeing how far they can take things.
All of us should show our gratitude, because as some have pointed out, they dont get paid, and are likely using their personal time away from friends and family to do this for us!

Everyone should use the old rule of thumb, if you dont have something nice to say, BITE YOUR TONGUE!

There is nothing wrong with reporting a bug, but I personally cant stand to see someone say something negative about a theme (for example) because they dont like it. Just post nice work and if you dont like it, dont download it.

My soapbox for the day! As always thanks to the Moderators and Developers...if it wasnt for them we would all be rocking to whatever Verizon and Motorola gave us...

I agree with the OP 100%! None of our devices come from the manufacture perfect. So why shoot the dev's that use their personal time to make devices more pleasurable to the end user? SMH

There's a thin line between constructive criticism and rudeness. I understand reporting a bug to help in future developments. I do not understand someones attitude when they come across a bug but they act is if they can do better. If you think you can do better, like Nike....just do it! Oh, its not as easy as you thought huh?

I do not know Matt nor have I personally experienced his work. But it kind of speaks for itself just because this thread was started. Matt, I hope you shake the haters off and continue on your work.

Matt is a developer for the D2. He created the Epic and Cobalt ROM series, and was working on a new ROM from source with Team Phoenix. Yes, a truly AOSP ROM, which I've stated many times before, is very rare.

FTR, he also compiled and tested the CyanogenMod RC1 for the D1. So, in a sense, he virtually created CyanogenMod.

I give more in straight up donations to devs than I do in app purchases.

Having worked in the ADULT commercial world I have learned that people who are not happy complain. Those that are happy use the product with little noise. That said, we need to realize this, support these people, BE POLITE like you were supposed to be taught as a child by your RESPONSIBLE parents. If this offends some, sorry. I wish your parents had raised you properly.

These Devs, besides using their personal time, are also the people that encourage the manufacturers to add new features. Since the VAST majority of droid users don't root, those of us that root are helping these Devs with constructive feedback. I hate it when a Dev takes his ball and goes home, maybe/hopefully, they will return after the wounds heal.

We need to loose the myopic, hedonistic, selfish attitudes and act like adults. HTH

I have had the opportunity to watch a good tier 1 developer work on a rom. Developing a rom is hard work and it takes a lot of time. But you can not put all developers in the same boat because they are not. Their are very few tier 1 developers who have the ability to actually build and compile two of those I know of are CVPCS and Cyanogen. Then you have other developers who will take their work and mod it to fit their rom. Their are devs who will take the source that was released by cvpcs and cyanogen and clean up some issues and theme it nice.
We have huge issues in the community one are devs who spawn drama, the android community not truly knowing what is going on, and developers burning out. I saw this as a big issue so I asked a neutral source to write an article on the android community. I am not gonna say who it is or when it will be released because I do not want to put any pressure on the guy but I am confident that article will wake up the community on what is happening. Until he relases the article I am going to touch on those issues from my perspective.
Drama: We do not have enough people wanting to grow up in the dev community. You have a mix of people demanding respect and wanting to feed off of "those who hate on us". To those developers I say do your work and develop there is no need to puff out your chest. Yelling this is who I am does not make us remember you, putting out good work does help us remember you. Another thing; open source is that open source so do not get all uptight if some one uses your source to compile a rom. And if you use someone elses source give the other guy credit, it is simple and what we all learned from grade school.
The android community not knowing what is going on: Ima let the article cover this
Developers burning out: Developers have lives, families, and stuff outside of roms but developing a rom takes some time, even if you are not compiling it from source. SO I agree that we calm down on demanding new roms back to back to back.
To the guy who suggest payment: Now I said this before that motorola's blur can be called one of the buggiest roms especially being that we paid high dollar for it. How many people have called and given motorola an earful and demanded they fix it. Because we do that to devs who put out a buggy rom. Now on the flip side, if I pay for a rom there better not be any major bugs and the minor bug better have an update to fix it soon. Back when I paid for the espnradio app and it would not allow people to use it I emailed the developer everyday atleast 3 times a day and demanded a fix or a refund. Point being is that if developers ask for money then they are gonna be under more pressure because people paid money. A donation is that, its me liking what you do so I am going to support your work regardless.
So the point is that its the android community as a whole that needs to mature. Android fans are turning into iphone fanboy in that we feel our devise is the end all. Guess what its not. I love android but I can name some issues right now with android and where we need to improve. 1) Fragmentation: No matter if I own an evo, droid, eris, droid x if google releases an update then I should be able to update to it. I should not have to wait and hope my phone manufacturer will release it to us. Because now the manufacturer have the cards in their hands. If they want to make us buy another device they can just stop supporting the current one. No matter what iphone or ipod I have I can still update to the current os, now it may not be as responsive or have as many features as one of the newer iphones but atleast I can update. 2) Android being used as a phone, A lot of us have had issues with the hesitation to answer a phone call. That needs to be fixed, now there are tweaks that help but users should not have to be rooted to get rid of that lag. Point being I can find things good and bad about any device. Just a year ago we was hoping for more support, now we have it and we feel like we have conquered the phone world. We haven't what we need to do is stop bashing iphone users and each other and spend more time requesting improvements and spreading the word. We need to ask manufacturers that after a certain period we should be allowed to continue updating our device from google despite them not wanting to support our devices any more. And if you are not gonna support for more than a year and a half then stop locking down the devices so we can not install google source updates. Educate co-workers with android devices to stay on manufacturers for updates and to continue to support their devices. And continue to seek improvement from both google and mfg. Eye candy means nothing if my device runs horribly and the manufacturer refuses to support it after a year.
