Droid 1/2 Extended Battery

Update: i just got to 60% after almost 4 hours of usage, heavy misc usage (backlight always on, setcpu max 1gig clock, autokiller set to ultimate preset, reading emails, sending a few texts. Also running wallswitcher app to change the wallpaper continuously every 1min. Wifi, bluetooth, gps, 3g, sync on, and highest brightness). Just turned on pandora and am running it continuously in addition to these current settings. Im thinking about turning the wifi off and running on 3g, would this use more battery?

:icon_ goofy: You're really putting the extended battery to the test eh?!

Are you trying to see how the battery reacts to many processes open at the same time?

I hope that's all you're trying to do, because if you're trying to kill the battery just to "cycle it" and do a "full first charge", you're not really doing anything at all for it!

Don't forget that these batteries are LITHIUM ION, and NOT NiCad. It's the NiCad batteries that benefit from deep cycles. Lithium Ion batteries run better when they're kept charged. Don't just take my word for it... feel free to do a few Google searches and check it out for yourself.

google came up with this: "a full discharge/charge will reset the digital circuit of a 'smart' battery to improve the state-of-charge estimation" seems to be the only benefit from a full discharge. is it recommended? right now i am trying to discharge the battery fully as it is the first full charge. I did read about the differences between lithium and nickle based batteries, but from what i hear the process is still recommended in some cases. just basing this info off this article Charging lithium-ion batteries

what do you recommend?

The quickest way I have found to discharge my droid 1's battery is by playing a 3d game.

Crusade of Destiny / PSX emulator / Need for Speed / any gameloft game. The minute that GPU kicks in you can literally watch your battery drain by the minute. I would say a 100%-15%(edit: on a STANDARD batt) warning would take me about over 2 hours and under 3 hours consistently.

Playing / Looping a HD movie would prob be the best "drainer". However I don't think you are being fair or scientific towards the new extended battery without establishing a control.

I would recommend if you are trying this as a scientific route that you download a (non pirated of course) HD video. Charge up both the standard and extended battery to 100% and loop that same video draining one battery at a time and keeping a eye on the battery life taking it all the way to shutdown.

Its totally not necessary to do this, however when I read that the backlight's been turned on to 30 mins and using wifi / web usage then reporting that a increase in life isn't noticed, I feel it's kind of unscientific to make that conclusion.

Does this sound about right ? I purchased the the battery, popped it in.. ran it til it died, then fully charged it over night. Next day 7 am off the dock and now its almost 11 pm..im at 30% ! and this is with very moderate use, some youtubing, email, and downloading apps (just got the phone)...im hoping it would get better with couple more charge cycles. Anyhow any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i read that its actually worse for the battery if you completely discharge it and it can get damaged that way. For lithium ion batteries i hear that it can be undercharged and have some really bad effects like the battery no longer charging correctly. I had bought another standard battery as a backup and after a few cycles it only lasts around 6 hours with moderate use and this is on a rooted phone. I just got this battery today and am trying something different. I charged it to full and drained it down to 15% now am recharging it. anyone else with more knowledge have any thoughts?

sub:

What i'm looking for in this battery (and honestly in any phone I purchase) is the ability to charge it to 100%, wake up / work / listen to a hour of music over headphones or bluetooth headphones / talk about a hour / send 50 text messages / light (30 mins) internet usage / on my way home from work visit girlfriend / take her out to dinner / get drunk with her / sleep over / wake up and go to work / lightly use cellphone for the bare minimum (texting and talking) / curse the smartphone industry for not investing enough $$$ in new battery tech / get home and charge.

I cannot do this currently with my droid even though I am pushing a good day of battery life (on a slower day) as it is. That extra 30% would make this a perfect device.

I get two full days out of mine at 1ghz standard voltage, with moderate use of 3d games, internet, texting, calling, etc etc. I play Nova by gameloft frequently (5 or 6 levels a day) 8 tournaments on lets golf, and a bit of pokemon. I am completely loving this new extended battery. just get setcpu and set screen off to 125 ;)

I should really try screen off = 125, I was told that anything under 250 would create issues with incoming calls and never tried it.

I am on UD7 with a ULV chevy 1250mhz kernel, currently set to 1000max - 250 min conservative scaling. I also have juicedefender active, however when I am at home / girlfriends or work I have wifi data on instead of 3g.

My battery life isn't terrible (not like my old touch pro 1) but it is something that I feel I have to make a conscious effort to judge exactly how much usage is too much. Reading a 2 day timespan makes me smile :icon_ banana:

Well as someone said on this forum, 2.2 wakes from sleep MUCH MUCH better, and 125 works the same for me as 300 did on 2.1. But this battery + new wakeup with froyo, holy cow, i honestly get two full days with moderate to moderate-high usage.

I have only seen one pic in this thread with the battery installed and no cover. My question, can a normal Droid 1 case (say an Otter Box) be installed with this battery if the battery cover is not installed?

I have the D2 extended battery and an OtterBox case, and it fits perfectly without the battery cover. It is very secure without the cover. With the cover you can tell it's there and kind of bulky, so I took it out. This is one of the best mods for the D1.

an update from mine.

on a full charge i got 34 hours. battery use details showed this...
1hr 25 min voice calls
4hrs display

the only other things listed were the usual cell standby, phone idle, etc

not too bad.. voice calls really drain the battery.

Because of my need for instant gradification, I called around to the local Verizon stores only to find there are none currently in any local store stock. So I ordered online and with free second day shipping, I should have one by Thursday. Dosen't help my "get it now" mental issues, but not a bad deal for $40 total.

How did you get it for $40? On the Verizon site it says it's $50.

I get a 25% discount through my employer.
