Droid 2 global d2g GINGERBREAD DEFINITELY COMING!

...we still dont have a leak and theres no word from tbh that they will ever release one.../QUOTE]

If I recall correctly, someone mentioned something about tbh saying that they, for a reason that they couldn't tell us, wouldn't be able to release a d2g leak?

Did I dream this up, or is this the case? If so, are there any updates on this?

That was wozzy they said that, but I recently read on p3droids Twitter that they haven't seen a d2g leak, I believe that he put that up yesterday.

Really want gingerbread for D2G....

This phone could be great, however the issues with activesync, the fact that my blue tooth goes in and out and other issues, really would benefit from an upgrade to gingerbread. I feel like I'm stuck with a lemon. I really hope that Verizon gets off their ass and get's a version for d2g soon. Not sure why droid pro got it first. I feel like I bought the wrong phone.

I see that the Droid Pro and D2G have identical radio specs so I assume they have the same radio. Does anyone know the baseband version the Pro had before the GB update? Is it the same as the d2G? Did the Pro have similar radio issues?

Did some of you travel outside the US with your "Global" phone? Well, if you do, you'll realize that this phone is not really global. As it currently is, with the baseband firmware that comes on the stock rom, the phone has terrible reception issues when in GSM mode with a foreign sim card. The phone was advertised as "global" and it came with a Vodaphone sim card already inserted in case you wanted to travel to Europe. Well, 50% of the time phone calls go directly to voicemail because there was no signal at that moment. So, how will you call this? A scam? Yes, a scam is what Motorola/Verizon did to us. They sold us a phone that was supposedly "global" when it is not. The phone is simply not reliable as a phone outside the US. This problem has been reported from many countries.
So, are they fixing this GSM reception issue? Is this the reason of them taking so long to release the new update? Maybe... I hope this is what is taking them so long, and I hope they better fix it.

I just got back from Italy. I used the stock SIM. I had no issues with reception or call quality. In fact the call quality was stellar!

I have used a Rogers foreign SIM in Canada and a T-Mobile UK foreign SIM in England, Holland and Denmark (roaming in the latter two countries) with no call quality problems whatsoever. Signal strength was fine, voice was fine, and 3G worked well.

I do have a problem with the phone - the bug by which incoming call volume sporadically falls to near zero (while outgoing call volume appears to be ok). This is independent of whether I'm on Verizon CDMA or someone else's GSM, so it has nothing to do with the radio - but it is annoying. The problem is always solvable by pulling the battery and rebooting, but I certainly hope that Gingerbread fixes this.

Otherwise I have no complaints at all about the phone, and I do use it heavily.

Lol? Where did you go? Im sitting in Thessoloniki, Greece right now and have 4 bars of signal. Even outside the city at a resort in Hakidiki I had service all the time. I had the same experience when I was in Denmark over christmas.

Any problems with service is on Vodafones end, not motorola's.....

I see now. You graduated and then you went on a trip to Greece and that is why there were no updates on your great rom. dancedroid
Going back to the reception issues, I think that in Europe and using the Vodafone sim card there are no problems but if you travel to countries in the Americas where they use the american bands like 850/1900, then we start having issues. A lot of people in Canada reported that the reception was always very weak and sometimes non existant, same as in Argentina. Of course we are using foreign sim cards that are not Vodafone.

very soon I will test my D2g in couple of countries in Europe with my Rogers and with a local sim and will report back.
I have noticed GSM mode almost always stays at 4 bars. It is 3G which suffers from low signal indicator bug,at least on US frequencies.
can't wait to see if radio resets occur on 2100MHz as well. My gut feeling says all problems come from the US operators ban implemented in the radio.
I've been traveling before (vacation) in Dominican republic - 7 days on GSM without a single hint of a problem. We'll see how's it in Europe

The Dominican republic uses the 850/1900 mhz bands or the 2100 mhz? Some countries in the americas use the european/asian band.
If this is due to the ban in the radio so that we can't use it on ATT, then do you think they will fix it in the new update?

In response to droid pro and d2g with same radios. Similar radios, but i think they are different enough. Different processors as well. Would fall into the same kernel issue.

I was using it on gsm not on 3G. the 3G operator Claro there isn't providing good coverage I was using the other one (was it Orange?) since I wasn't using data (expensive$ive)
phone was performing excellent on 2G

What country are you talking about in particular? I am moving to the middle east soon.

I am talking about countries like Argentina or Canada which use the same American GSM bands. I think the middle east uses the 2100 Mhz band that i believe it has no problems. Maybe it is related to the ban Verizon put for us not to use the AT&T network.
