Droid 2 global d2g GINGERBREAD DEFINITELY COMING!

So are we going to get an official ROM release we can download here and flash our phones with or what? Or are we going to have to go back to Froyo stock, then upgrade OTA, and root the phones again?

I'm excited about Gingerbread, but having only owned a Droid and Nexus One before now, I'm not sure how it works with these locked-bootloader phones.

You will likely need to SBF to stock. Whenever I went to system update in fission it just went to a black screen. Plus I would go to a fresh stock with backups to make sure everything works properly.

I would wait until some people get it. We dont know if we will be able to sbf back to froyo or not, we dont have it rooted for sure yet, and until the devs get our hands on it and have some time to play with it we wont have any custom roms.

Bwahahahahah.. What a freaking joke.. There's so much conflicting information they're putting out.. It's pushed out.. You can manually update using the system update.. Redunkulous..

if I SBF will the images and video that i took still be saved on the SD card?

SBF only touches the internal storage on the phone, however, any files you care about should always live in more than one place. When I take a few pictures which I do not want to lose I copy them to my desktop or laptop at the next convienent time. I do not delete them from my phone or still camera until they live on at least two of my desktop, laptop, or external hard drive I keep in a fire safe.

Phenomenal! My (barely) used D2G is going to arrive today, and it looks like the coveted Gingerbread update is going to arrive as well.

So, I wonder how long before somebody will work up a root hack for it for the Gingerbread update? Or are there any generic Gingerbread rooting apps out there?

So can we get it? I just read a article that says it avalible OTA but I can't get it.
