Droid Bionic? Maybe not...

I too have been waiting since last year. I just wish Moto would give and keep time frames. Tired of waiting. Not mad...Just tired.

Until it comes out I don't know if it will be my next phone or not. My plan now is to wait a week after release to see what issues there are and then hope it isn't sold out.

I'm still on the D1 I got in Nov 2009. Plenty of "better" phones have come out since then and I've still been happy with my phone. so if I pick up a Bionic and a "better" phone comes out for the holidays I'll be ok. Well, OK unless that "better" phone has a built in switchable red/green/blue laser pointer, included overhead projector, and comes with the shaving attachment app.

+1

I'm hanging tight, once it's out, if it's worth it, I'll get it, otherwise I will explore my other options.

I have my doubts about this phone. Any phone that was dropped in testing (Etna) and who's name was moved over to another model (Targa) to me doesn't bode well for the product. To me that says it will be a product rushed to market and that to me that says it will likely be buggy. I would be cautious about getting this phone.

Possibly.
I am assuming the reason its been so long to release is from bugs, and I wouldn't be surprised if they release it too early.

The targa has been in motion since late 2010. How would that be considered a rushed product? If nothing else, they would probably pay closer attention to this bionic given its failed predecessor's problems. You'd think moto's higher ups would give the "You better not F*ck this one up like the last one" pep talk and got the engineers on point and dead set on success.

Remember they didnt ramp up production on this phone. All they did was take the targa device which probably had a release schedule for late summer, and renamed it.

+1. Exactly. If anything they're taking their time on this one. If they were rushing it, we would already have it.

I'm hoping everybody but the devs "second-guess" this phone and hesitate purchasing it. My upgrade isn't available until the week after the Bionic is rumored to release, so I need units to be available for ordering that week. The more people who don't purchase it, the better :)

Well, I am holding out for the Bionic at this point, even though the D3 would probably serve me better. At this point, if root happens with the D3 before the Bionic release, then I will likely pull the trigger on the D3.

I am basing my decision more on root and possibly rom support. No question the Bionic will have lots of folks whacking away at root and rom, the D3 still debatable whether there is enough development support that will happen. We are long past the days of the orginal Droid, where everyone was working on that phone. This android fragmentation is good in that we have lots of phones to choose from, but from the develpment side, it sure must be frustrating. I know it is for me trying to "guess" where the develpment will happen.

I have to agree with those of you who think Moto is trying to get it right. The best phones I have had over the years have been Motos. My guess is they are trying to get it right. Will it be 100%. Probably not, but I expect it to be closer than some of the other products.

I disagree that Motorola always releases refined devices. My Original Droid had to be replaced 4 times before I got a 100% functioning one.

I like Moto devices, but I wouldn't say they "always" wait to release a product so that it can be "perfect."

I am still using the Droid 1 (using GPA16 ROM). I can wait another few weeks.

I love my droid 1, however I never use the keyboard, so I'm eyeing a candy bar style phone since they're slimmer, no moving parts, etc, etc...

Waiting for Bionic, or GSII

Yeah I had one with software problems, the other 3 were hardware. From what I can remember one antenna was broken, internet went in and out, next one's speaker crackled like I'd never heard before and the other's buttons didn't function and were pink lol.

Don't take my criticism to heart, I waited forever for Moto to make a solid smart phone, I love Droids. I just try to tell things as they are.

I'd say you were probably the exception.

Brandon

Nope. I went through 4 or 5. The first one was fine until somehow one of the OTA updates bricked it. Every one after that had a hardware problem

Oh, I guess 2 out of a million is more than the exception.

Thanks,

Brandon

You may be forgetting we on this forum only represent maybe 1% of the Motorola's sales.

If there's people here who had to return 3-4, then by reason alone we have to assume there's thousands that had to return at least 1.

Again, this isn't attacking Motorola, it's just the truth. I wouldn't be on this forum if I didn't love Droids.

I had 3 Droid 2 replacements, and 6 HTC Incredible replacements. Along with 5 iPhone 3GS replacements.

It's not just Moto, all phones have problems.
