Droid Bionic? Maybe not...

I think that depends on what a buyer is looking for most. My area is covered fully by 4G, but, I don't actually use the internet on my phone enough to necessarily need 4g, it's more of a convenience than a necessity.

Now a vibrant and non-pixelated screen and a camera that takes incredible photos, I'm very interested in.

Motorola has to see this perfect storm coming, 2 phones with very appealing features. Maybe there is a reason for these delays?

Its gonna be 3 phones in my view, I m just a tad but curious to see what the Iphone 5 brings to the table as well....

Sacrilege!! Somebody grab the pitchforks, I'll light the torches!

Yeah, I know I know. I m just not married to any one platform. They all have their positives and negatives imo. I m a big fan of Android, but I ll weigh all the specs on these phones first before I buy I think. My last handset was a Dell Venue Pro on T-mobile and to be honest I think Windows Phone might have more potential than all of them, but it was still a little too raw. We'll see what happens...

Apples stuff is bulletproof, it just works (just no flexibility or creativity). All of the lawsuits have kind of turned me off to the idea of buying one of their products. My next android has to have much improved cam/vid capabilities to show up my friend's iphone. And shouldn't 2011 flagships at least match apple's technology that's several years old now?

What do you mean beat Apple's technology? Hasn't it by far beaten it already?

I agree. Apple's hardware is incredibly reliable.

Except for this one time my 3GS froze on me, and since there is no removable battery I had to get a new one...

I'd definitely be interested in the Iphone 5. I just hate the single home button. It's one thing I think makes android phones much better. It's simple, but having the 4 home keys makes for a much more intelligent feeling device.

The Iphone's great, with a little more customization they could steal back a lot of android users. Mostly because their build quality is second to none.

They also know that having one device allows software engineers a much more stable platform to work off of, making their jobs a bit easier("This APP Doesn't work on Droid X7" comes to mind in the future of android devices.

I speak mainly of the screen and camera and video. The retina display is still amazing and the cam and vid blows all current android stuff out of the water. And the execution and transitions are butter smooth and oh so fast.

Common sense thinking would make one come to the conclusion that with the infestation of bed bugs in the Samsung/HTC whorehouse, that the players at Motorola are thinking twice about jumping into bed with them. Its my belief and understanding that when u see 2 wrongs, why would u try to strike out and be in the same pool of **** as the other idiots swimming in the deep end? Stay in the shallow end and watch the morons drown! Motorola seems to have their thinking caps on like usual. If its been thru testing and trial and error processing for this long, then its only fair to think they are doing something right.

Lets all think about this:
Out of all the android phones out there, which manufacturer has the phones with the least amount of bugs? Of all the phones I have been thru in the last 10 years, I would say Motorola. Every product I have had from them still works! Including my i530 Nextel!

I have tested alot of phones and to me the only ones worth actual waiting for is the ones Motorola produces. Their phones are rugged and made of high quality parts. They are the only phones I have used that feel like phones and not eggshells with electronics in them. I have actually ran over this D1 with my car. Yes even with scratches, it still works like it did the day I bought it. Slow compared to the X my wife wont give me back, but a solid product.

After testing both the HTC TB and the Charge, I will gladly give them both back to their makers and wait for a solid product to be released from Motorola. The only good thing about the Charge was the shape and the screen. Other than that, it was a total POS.

So, if Motorola wants to take a few more weeks to give me a product that is solid and actually worth $300 bucks of my hard earned money, then so be it. I will wait for my Targa/Bionic. Just my 5 cents. Have a great day all.

As the bionic saga has dragged on, I have been leaning more and more towards waiting for the gs2 before I make my decision. Then today I came across this xda thread about the best pictures you've taken with your gs2, and I must say that I am shocked at the difference between those and the x2 whose pictures just look digital and artificial. The cameras/videos are not even in the same league. Now I can say with almost certainty, that if the hardware hasn't been upgraded from the x2, I will get the gs2 whether or not it's 4g.

Big,

Thanks for the link. Pretty darn amazing pictures going on there. If you check in the D3 forum, it would appear that there may be some issues with the D3 camera that folks think an upgrade is necessary to fix. If the Bionic camera and software are the same as the D3, then there may be a significant difference in quality of pic's that may need to be factored into a purchase equation.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the gs2 is the same breed of animal as the "stuff" that's been getting passed off to the US market for a while now. Many have complained that we've been getting leftovers for a while now. Maybe now that other manufacturers are starting to make advances, Sammy decided to pull the big gun. Never had a problem with sammy's phone build, just crap hardware. Just do a little surfing on the GS2 and you'll see it's a beast we've never seen the likes of here.

I've been too busy stalking the bionic and GS2 info to do a lot of investigating on the d3. I just keep hoping that all of the delays are because they want to put out a world class item. That there doesn't seem to be any improvement between the x2 and d3 in the hardware department could be troublesome (but let's hope it's not).

I guess u didn't understand the post clearly. Yea maybe the SG2 is a quality phone. Haven't looked into it yet.

The point is, if the gs2 is a great product, it might just be the first "quality" product that has been produced to this date.

However, Motorola has always put out quality products. From the first cell I ever had. Remember the giant white brick with the black antenna and the orange display? Yup still have that in storage somewhere. And it still powers on too! Technology is probly too old to be used nowadays but who knows. The 57 belair is still rolling strong too.

Yea, but there screen on the D3 looks much better, and its processor is much better.
I guess the Pentile looks worse on a 4.3 inch screen, which makes me wonder how bad it'll be on the Bionic.

And theres also other reasons like a physical keyboard and 1080p video.
A physical keyboard helps in so many ways.

D3 and dx2 are not even close to each other. The d3 smokes the dx2. The d3 will have more in common with the bionic (same chipset, though bionic might be clocked higher)

As for the camera, its a simple software fix. The white balance is non-existent on the stock camera. If you grab a 3rd party camera app, and have white balance adjusted for flourescent light, problem fixed. You can check my gallery for an example (or look at the Camera [ix thread in the d3 forum)

I still don't know how people can like the samsung screens, the colors are beyond horrible.

No denying motorola makes a fine durable product. I've had both motorola and Samsung phones and have not had quality issues with the build quality in either. There's nothing wrong with taking pride in your old phones working. But we part ways there because I don't use my old phones at all. I only need my phone to give me 2 good years of service (and probably less with early upgrades) and then I'm off to the next great thing. Having patrolled foreign forums for some time now, looking at higher end phones the US never received, I see nothing that makes me think the Galaxy SII won't be a great phone to fill that time frame.
