Droid Razr Maxx HD waiting lounge.

Well rooting is an exploit employed by hackers to get around security. If they make an "unrootable" phone it'll only be a matter of time before someone cracks the system. Really there's no such thing as a unrootable device in my opinion. They can increase security and make it more difficult to root. But in the end even the most secure systems can be cracked with enough time and effort.

Do I believe that Motorola would try to block exploits? Yes. Can they block them 100%? No.

they can try all they want... at the end of the day if they succeed.. they'll lose customers no matter how good their device is.. unless they make future OS FULLY CUSTOMIZEABLE we'll go to a manufacturer that we can still root and control

I went to a verizon store yesterday and demoed the Razr HD. I must say I was pretty impressed. The camera wasn't taking the best pictures I've seen on a smartphone but I was impressed with the speed of the shots it took. The screen was pretty though and I liked the feel of it in my hand.

Still kind of undecided and I'll wait to see what Nexus offerings come out of Google, and to see the Droid Incredible X before I spring for the Razr HD. But if I were buying today I'd be walking out with a Razr for sure.

personally if it is between the incredible dlx, google nexus, or razr maxx hd I am taking the razr maxx hd. Having a lte device I know all to well about having to wait that extra minute, it seems, just to hopefully get through the day.

played with it just a few minutes ago and honestly I'm disappointed. I prefer the RAZR m over this... it just feels bleh, the screen doesn't seem that much bigger and overall it's just a small refresh of my current RAZR maxx. sorry Motorola but I'm not impressed, let's hope the note 2 lives up to the hype

Depends on your use and priorities. If you are only on the phone few minutes here and there, the droid incredible x its probably the best phone. Spanks the razr hd in all specs except battery. The note 2 is too big in my opinion. I am probably going to the maxx hd for the battery.

I actually find the Razr M compelling as well. It's got the sane processor, the same GPU, the same RAM, and it even is rated to get better battery life than the regular Razr HD even though it has a smaller battery. But the Razr M omits an internal compass, at least on the stat sheet on phonearena.com, which would make that an odd omission if that's true since a compass helps with turn-by-turn navigation, and it's been pretty standard even on low to mid end devices.

But if my fears can be allayed on that front then I would totally jump for the Razr M.

Though concern with the razr m are the radio issues.

I hadn't heard that. I had heard rumors that the Razr HD delayed for radio issues.

I did read that call quality wasn't stellar but that was just one review.

My Razr M has been stellar for calls and data but there is speculation that the antennagate issues are due to interference being held in the hand but not with a case (or as one video suggests, buffered in paper towels). I do have my M in a gel case so that could be why I haven't had any problems...either that or my M just doesn't have those problems.

It does have a compass. I worried about the same thing because it isn't listed in the specs, but it in fact does. Screen shot below shows the Magnetic field sensor which is the compass...

Excellent! Thanks for sharing that tidbit. It makes me more willing to go with the M possibly. Basically the way I see it is that I'm giving up the HD screen and an HDMI port for a much cheaper phone. But I think the M looks great too! I actually think it looks better than the Razr HD and HD Maxx. The only thing I like better about the Razr HD is I like having a little weight, or solid feeling, in a phone; the Razr M seems almost too lightweight, if there is such a thing.

I'll look more into the antenna issue, but people always seem to complain about reception on most phones when they come out.

Well I did visit the "antennagate" thread over on three Razr M section and someone made a good point that authentication issues and software bugs in general that plague new releases. I could be wrong, but until there's more evidence I'll take the antenna issues with a grain of salt.
