[APPS] Droid X/2 Overclock App - Easy & Noob friendly ;)

Got this lastnight. Wow, Overclocking made easy.

First, ApeXv1
Second, Autokiller (not a task killer)

Both of these helped my phone greatly... so, now this!

I ran ULV 1.2 all night last night and just about all day today. Only had just one or two minor issues, (1 is a FC on Handcent... which may or may not be attributed to this) and the second was I watched about 30 seconds of Iron Man on my phone when it rebooted on me. So, I'm trying ULV 1.15 right now. So far, no issue.

Taking the phone off the charger this AM at 6:30 AM and now checking at 3:08 PM... I have 70% battery left. So, I can tell a little bit of improvement on the battery with the ULV setting.

Let me make sure I'm following things strait here. I'm still pretty new to Android and stuff in general, so I wanna make sure I have my facts strait here:

LOWERING the voltage is better for battery life, while INCREASING the voltage will give you strong performance, even at the same CLK speeds? Is that correct? I can see why people would want to lower the voltage to help with battery, but (if I'm wrong) if the above statement isn't correct, then why would someone want to INCREASE voltage?

Lowering the voltage also keeps the heat down. You could run massive high speeds, at massive high voltages, but then your processor would pretty much melt.

Increasing the voltage won't give you extra performance, it will just allow the processor to run at higher speeds and be given the power it needs to be stable. However with more power and more speed comes more heat.

So if you overclock to something like 1.15GHZ it will most likely be stable at ULV because it doesn't need higher voltage to keep up that speed. So you'd see a slight increase in performance and a decent increase in battery life. However running 1.45GHZ at ULV most likely won't work because the CPU won't have enough power and become unstable.

On the other hand. You don't want to run high voltage at 1.45GHZ because then the processor and battery will get too hot and potentially cause damage.

The ideal for most is finding a good balance of performance, battery life and temperature. This is usually done by lowering the voltage enough to run at a reasonably higher clock speed. This is usually found by trial and error. My perfect setup right now is 1.25GHZ at ULV. The battery temp peaks at 91 and the ambient temp (closest thing to CPU temp) never higher than 65.
I was running 1.3GHZ but i noticed crashes when running benchmarks and video.

I take it there's really no need to use setcpu at all anymore. This app seems to have every feature now. Damn, I just bought that recently lol.

You still need to use SetCPU to adjust the clock settings.

OK, stupid question.

If all I want to do is have the device change its clockspeed as needed, (ondemand), do I need SetCPU?

In other words, if I install SetCPU and don't customize the profiles: screen off, battery %, temp, etc - is SetCPU doing anything that JRummys app wouldn't do on its own?

Running rubiXFocused1.0 and received an error when loading Droid X/2 Overclock...

"Error, loading system files. App will now exit, Please contact us."

Custom ROMs on X not supported?

Ummm - never mind. Cleared cache on D X/2 OC and ran again. Seems to be working excellent. Sorry I didn't check before posting.

I was having the same problem, but thanks to your post it seems to be working fine! Thx, I didn't even think of clearing the apps cache.

Just noticed something else after the update today. In the extras when I set the wifi scan time to 2 or 3 minutes it sets it to 120 for both of them. Love the app best 99¢ I've spent in a while.

Can't get overclock to work on new 2.3.2

Hey JRummy,

Love the overclock app. For some reason I can't get it to overclock on the new 2.3.2 build. I had it working on the 2.4.5 build just fine on Ultra Low at 1.25 with no problems. When I try it now, it asks for superuser permissions, and then reboots. After the reboot, I go into SetCPU and auto detect speeds. It only comes up with the 1 ghz as max.

I changed my rom to squidly's and now the overclock is working as it is supposed to be. Must be something with Darkslide. I now have it set to ULV 1.25 and it sets the frequency right away.

Do you have this set to store on reboot? By default, you can change your settings however you want, but if you reboot the phone... it will go back to factory settings. That is a failsafe in case you accidently overclock with the wrong settings.

Is there any place that gives good information on how the different govenor presets work? Im looking at them. And have some kind of idea based on the name... but wanna be sure I understand how to use them.
