First, you should have posted links to the images, not resized images. Also, you are talking about indoor images from a phone. To me, they look great. I've been happy with the images I've taken on the DX. I did upgrade from an iPhone3GS, but still. Its a great camera. I took a few shots in a restaurant last night with the flash and was very impressed. Maybe you saw 8 megapixel and expected it to be like a normal camera.
Bummer that the shutter speed cannot be changed. How about the aperture? I noticed that all your shots, including the new ones posted are at F2.8. When at that aperture, everything close to the camera (say arms length) will be soft/fuzzy/out of focus....due to Depth of Field. Notice how your backgrounds are all in focus. Camera is too close to your subject(s) you and gf. The one of your gf alone full body shot looks acceptably in focus and you have sufficent distance from her that she appears to fall within the depth of field. Post processing in some photo edit software will get her real sharp.
Now regarding the tripod, I don't think you can mount your phone to one unless you rigged up some DIY mount to get your phone on a tripod like that one guy did who did a whole photo shoot using an iPhone. However, if one expects to get good sharp pictures...then yes, carry a tripod everywhere you go. I do. But of course, I also have a DSLR and use that for photos. I don't rely on my Moto Droid for the crappy pictures it takes because my Canon will take the kinds of shots I want. My Moto Droid is used, as others have mentioned, for on the fly shots that I don't expect to be of excellent quality and just want to save for the memory.....especially since my brain is out of film. HAHA! And I never once thought to return my Moto Droid because the photos were crappy....that was expected of a Cell Phone.
Don't get me wrong, it's not always possible to get a perfect picture with Droid cameras, but with some finesse you can do pretty well in all but low-light situations. Black and white can also be your friend since it suppresses CCD noise. Exposure adjustment present in 2.2 will also allow you to bracket around contrast issues which may prevent proper metering. Finally, always clean your lens prior to use, as I saw what looked to be some dirty lens-induced cloudiness/focusing issues on some of the pics posted.
Here are a couple more photos. I took these pictures of my Droid Incredible (that's listed on Ebay now - these are the photos I used for my listing). I did do the update yesterday. I also did open these in Photoshop just to adjust the brightness and contrast, but that's it. I think these are more than acceptable for a camera phone. What say you?
i just ordered a replacement droid x. since mine has a stuck/dead pixel. but i can only see it when im using the camera which is odd. but ill get the new 1 tomorrow. :icon_ banana:
oh wait no nvm probably get it when they start shipping again since its on back order which will be the 4th.
Here are some pics taken today when i took my dog for a walk at the local park.Im not a camera geek by no means but to me i was pretty impressed by some of the shots. All of these are totally unedited.
These are pictures I took today, one with the Droid and one with my BB 9650. I love the Droid X, but the pic quality....am I doing something wrong? All settings are set to Auto and 0. Suggestions?

Play with your iso and exposure settings. The higher the iso and exposure the more light comes in.
Take your camera off of auto.
Now indoors in the daytime with flash of. In the camera settings look for iso set to about 600/400 next mess with your exposure set it maybe to 1 or 2. See what u get. Experiment with it and eventually u will be suprised. Guys by the way ya'll are taking some awesome pics with the X
by the way theres a few super long threads here comparing the iphone 4 and the x's cameras. iphone wins by a landslide everytime. indoors, outdoors, low light, bright light. doesnt matter
