Droid X camera is disapointing (pictures inside)

yeah, typical motorola. they havent been able to build a decent camera, in, well forever. even the HD video recording on the X is pitiful.

I can't speak to the camera (really havene't used mine or messed with it yet...will try after the coming update), but the first day I got the phone I shot this video. I wouldn't call it "pitiful". Switch to 720P and remember that it's compressed on Youtube...the source file is even better. And the sound quality is pretty darn good, too.

Leaving everthing on auto is like leaving your stereo to the factory preset. Adjust your eq...but in your case, aperture, exposure, ISO...

I mean no offence, but I can't stand people complaining about the quality of cameras on mobile phones. It is a phone, and the camera is mostly there as a little add-on. I am just glad we get shots that have a flash and are bigger than 230x350 or whatever now a days!

I am a photographer and I know that you need a product BUILT for taking photos if you want to get good photos. I use an SLR Digital camera for my photography, but I love my droid camera for little personal moments. Also, you cant look at mega-pixel as quality. I had a 6MP SLR back in the day, and although it was only 6 it took incredible images. Now, even though your phone may have an 8MP camera, it has a tiny lens and sensor and therefore not built for professional quality. Also, look at some of the tiny point and shoot digital cameras on the market, even they bigger than your mobile phone and have all parts for the camera only...

So I say stop complaining about itsy bitsy cameras. They are a nice add-on, nothing professional...

Good point. This should go without saying. I guess we've been spoiled by these devices that do SO MUCH. We can't expect them to be the best at EVERYTHING they do. I'm thrilled with the video quality that I've gotten already. I haven't used the camera yet (and probably won't use it much....it's not what I bought the phone for), but I'm sure the photo quality will be all that I expected it to be.

Actually I have to disagree with the complaints. My son just got the DroidX and he took some amazing pictures this weekend of our new puppy. That is a real test because shutter speed is extremely important as puppies obviously do not sit still. The photos turned out amazing. My son felt he not only was getting a phone, a computer, a gps but a very nice camera. So just wanted to say some positive things here too.

It ain't the camera it's the shooter; please have him post

I agree that the camera isn't stunning, but overall, I don't think its really taking that bad of pictures. IMHO, I didn't buy the phone for the camera, and I keep a digital camera in my truck with me at all times, so most of the time I don't need to use the phone camera, but when I do, I don't think its that bad ;-) We want these devices to do everything except the dishes... although sometimes, the dishes would be good too lol

Trying to upload some more pics I took but cant if someone sends me an email via pm I will send them all are inside no flash and one is outside

Throw photoshop mobile on your droid x and crank the contrast and saturation way up and you will get something that more closely resembles the iPhone's photos.

The iPhone is more interested in photos that look good, not photos that reflect reality. Up the contrast, saturation and maybe throw a warm color cast on there.
