Droid X camera is disapointing (pictures inside)

Don't get me wrong, it's not always possible to get a perfect picture with Droid cameras, but with some finesse you can do pretty well in all but low-light situations. Black and white can also be your friend since it suppresses CCD noise. Exposure adjustment present in 2.2 will also allow you to bracket around contrast issues which may prevent proper metering. Finally, always clean your lens prior to use, as I saw what looked to be some dirty lens-induced cloudiness/focusing issues on some of the pics posted.

The iPhone is more interested in photos that look good, not photos that reflect reality. Up the contrast, saturation and maybe throw a warm color cast on there.

There cannot be a more true statement. You see this a lot in photography in the last 1 - 2 years. Some how people believe coloring the grass a shade of green that doesn't exist in reality makes a good photograph.

I'm not trying to bash or offend anyone, but compared to my iPhone 3GS and an EVO (test drove it for 30 days), my new Droid X takes much better pictures. I thought the EVO had the same camera as the Incredible, so I'm surprised everyone thinks the Incredible takes better pics...

Just my 2 cents.

I'm not a photographer and this is my first smart phone. I've not had any problems and think it does a fine job as a phone camera. I shot a video of my daughter at a 5K race and did some stills and the color etc is accurate.

Low light is always a challenge but my expectations were really low and I am thrilled. Plus being able to edit it and upload it places easily and all that is a lot of fun.

There's a comparo on the other forum of the incredible vs the X and the X took more realistic looking pics in terms of color. The incredible was a little washed out and the night sky shots were off completely. The Inc. did have slightly sharper pics on some of them though. Seemed like it applied some sharpening after the shots.

How do the HTC cameras compare to Motorola's?

People may not like the answer to that but as I mentioned in another thread, I just bought my Droid X (at full price) specifically interested in how the camera compares to my Incredible.

So far - and I have .516 - the Incredible has less "shutter" lag and takes sharper pictures both indoors and out at all resolutions.

I will give it a few more days but photos are important to me (as they are to most parents of little kids) and I always carry my phone while the camera is often forgotten home.

I have tried the X and it's camera. Compared to my incredible the motorola is garbage. IMO
