Hey guys, would it be a problem if i rooted the phone using gingerbreak and updated with this new update? Will i brick my phone?

EDIT: It seems like it installed with no problems. I just want to know, would I still for rooted and if I keep the gingerbreak, would this cause any problems? I know this update just came out, but thought maybe someone with some knowledge can give some insight. Thanks.

There is no point. THe update will un root your phone. Also if you are rooted the update might not install. It will not brick your phone, the update just will fail to run.

If you want to stay rooted do NOT apply this update. You WILL lose root. Also it may be a one way trip. Reports are that the update has a new bootloader. Motorola Atrix had a new bootloader in it's GB update and it ruined the ability to roll back to Froyo. People that tried to flash the SBF hard bricked the phone.

This is not an update you want to take if you enjoy tweaking your phone.

Yeah, I just checked and I see i'm no rooted anymore. So I guess there's no way to go back to the version that came with the phone? This sucks..wish I didn't update now..hope they find a way to root with this update.

No way to know for certain until someone risks there phone in a test. But with the Atrix as an example I know that I wouldn't do that.

It's weird because as of now I still have gingerbreak installed, just that Superuser doesn't allow access to any of the apps i tried (Titanium and barnacle). I don't know if i should just uninstall everything related to root to be safe.

Safe against what? Your phone isn't going to spontaneously self destruct. I doubt you will be able to uninstall any of it. They were installed using backdoor methods and hacks that no longer exist. You'll just have apps that don't work. Think of it as having apps written exclusively for Windows 98 that can't run on Windows Xp.
