That's cool with me, froyo on the X2 was awful in my opinion. Others may feel differently but this update sealed the deal for me with this phone. I was ready to sell it on ebay because I disliked it so much but now I'm in love with it.
Ok so quick question then...I am rooted (used Gingerbreak) and instead of just freezing some of the bloatware I actually manually removed it through the terminal. I have no ROM's flashed but because I can't just "unfreeze" the bloatware should I flash back with the SBF before accepting the update?
If so I am also assuming by what I have read here that I won't be able to "re-root" the phone afterwards once it's running Gingerbread (at least not yet).
I am thinking perhaps I should flash back with SBF, root again with Gingerbreak and this time not remove any bloatware and then wait for the update???

I posted this is a separate thread, but I've not been so lucky with the OTA update. Received a prompt that the update was available. I downloaded, installed (presumably) and when the phone rebooted it was completely frozen. The touchscreen is completely unresponsive (no such problems before applying the update). The phone has rebooted on its own about 10 times but after each reboot, it's still unresponsive (can't unlock the start screen). So its completely unusable. Any suggestions for resetting? I tried removing the battery and the microSD card, but after it boots the touchscreen is still unresponsive.
I'm sure many of you know, but figured I would share this info anyway
I had a Droid X2 2.2 rooted. The primary reason was to be able to change the hosts file to help prevent ads. A better keyboard and other improvements was worth more to me so I removed root going back to stock to install the update. It appears the update doesn't reset/change the hosts file as I'm now running GB but also with ads blocked! Of course, as ad servers change I'm sure this will not work long term but by that point I'm sure someone will have found a way to root this device.

So I have two choices then....flash back using SBF and accept the update and wait until someone can root Gingerbread or keep Froyo rooted and when it asks if I want the update pushed to my phone I just choose no? Sound correct?
I was rooted but I didn't change a thing . I just ran a few apps that needed su permission. So I used gingerbreak and unrooted and removed all apps that needed su . Will that be enough to accept the update .
If you've done that or are already stock unrooted unROMed 2.2.2 then download the file, rename it to update.zip, put it on your SDcard-ext (not in any folders), go to recovery and install update.zip: Droid X2 Boot into Recovery - xda-developers
1 download the zip to your computer
2 rename it update
3 transfer it to your phone sd card
4 power down the phone
5 power up into android recovery, there are how to guides everywhere
6 select 'apply update.zip from sd'
7 wait
Edit: Vinaaga beat me to it
also if you are rooted with nothing frozen this still works, superuser stays but doesn't work and can't be removed
