DVD Catalyst

Purchased DVD Catalyst today and it worked as advertised. First movie I've ever converted. Decision to purchase was made easy by the amount of support shown on this forum. I'm new to this and I'm sure to have questions down the road. Thanks dvdcatalyst for your support.

Thank you Akitakan,

I try to provide the best support I can give :)

Can't seem to rip "Blow" I see 2 tracks one with 27 scenes and one with 48 scenes. Both are the same length. Ripping either one results in an abbreviated process with a movie only a few minutes long. Anyone with a successful rip?

Hi Cyber,
Blow should work without any problems. I have not had any questions or problem reports on this one until now. Are you using the boosterpack? if so, try turning it off, if not, install it :)

Hi Catalyst,

I know you'll probably need more information and hopefully I'll be able to email you from the link in the Program when I get home tonight. But I'm having some video playback issues with the files I'm creating with DVD Catalyst using the Droid presets. They copy over fine to the handset, but there is some skipping and jittering in the video. Kind of like it plays back "choppy" from time to time.

I'll try playing the files on the computer I used to rip them and see if I get the same thing, but just wanted to throw this out there. Any experience with this issue?

I've since downloaded the boosterpack and unchecked the CPU activitiy. maybe I'll delete the files and try re-encoding.

Do you ever recommend changing to 2-pass? Any other changes I should or shouldn't mess with in the options?

Thanks!

Hi Superman,

Trying the videos on your computer would be the first thing to try.
I did see a thread in regards of playback issues here

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...video-does-not-sync-when-watching-videos.html

JTACs files (what movies are on your droid thread)are done with DVD Catalyst 3, but considering how many people have downloaded those videos without issues, I would asume it is related to something on the Droid, such as a program running in the background, or memory. A softreset/battery pull might fix it.

As for 2-pass, it can improve quality, but the problem is that the variable bitrate can exceed the specifications of the droid, which can cause issues like you describe.
As for other tips, have a look on my website (blog section) I've written quite a few articles in regards of tips and tricks. Unfortunately my host doesnt let me use a search box (something about database limits) so you will have to go through the different pages of different articles.

What's the average file size (on Droid SD card) for a 2hr movie once a movie is ripped?

It depends on the profile selected.
The HQ profiles usually make files around 1-1.2GB in size, the standard profile about 700-800MB. It's adjustable though.

My personal preference but with Catalyst you can see the resulting MB size as you adjust the conversion parameters. So I try to keep all my movies at a max of 1200MB and most around 1000MB.

As soon as a computer is free I'll try ripping blow and snatch again with the booster pack off. Hmmm, that sounds nasty....

Yeah, they're playing fine on the computer. How do I get DVD Catalyst back to it's default settings? I think I've messed with stuff in the options.

I'm going to use the standard Droid setting from now on. Hopefully that works the best.

Thanks!

To reset DEVD Catalyswt, just rightclick somewhere in the program, and select help > reset settings.

to reset just the profile, just select a different device profile, then change it back

I just converted the following - The Hangover UNRATED 2009 720p BluRay x264 EPiK

Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x534 23.98fps [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch [Audio]
Subtitle: UTF-8 [Subtitle]

I reset DVD Catalyst to default settings and used a profile to convert to "Droid HQ" and "iPhone" (for my wife's Eris).

However, apparently the ****ing SUBTITLES were permanently burned into the new files.

65 minutes for the Droid HQ version and 45 minutes for the iPhone version. Wasted.

Still love this program, just mad that I don't know how to lose the subtitles.

FYI - when I watch the original file in MPC, there are no subtitles, unless I specifically turn them on.

Sorry about the subtitles. unfortunately its something with some MKV files. they have the subtitles set to enabled when created for some reason. In Global Settings > Language I added a "no subtitles" option (as of the latest version) to specifically turn these off. Unfortunately during detection of the files, it is not reported by the mkv if the subtitle is enabled by default or not.

As for the reset, just rightclick in the program and select Help > Reset
