Easy Root, one-click root for DROID 1 and DROID X, works as intended

So...i have read in android forums dot com that if i use easyroot i still need to download other things in order to be able to flash custom roms? I was used to DroidMod until they said they were never going to root 2.1..is Easyroot just like DroidMod?

I did the manual Android 2.2 update a few days ago. I was reading about Easy Root and finally got the nerve to try it. I was a little reluctant since my Droid is only a few weeks old but after the update and getting to know my phone better I though why not give Easy Root a try, than it was pulled from the Market. I did a search and found the web site, bought it, installed it. Now I drank the koolaid and I’m a rooted user, waahoo! dancedroid
Look out here I come, Custom Apps, roms, etc. I’m doing a Titanium Backup now.

You will need an alternate recovery image like SPRecovery or Clockwork Recovery. ClockworkMOD from the market will flash Clockwork Recovery within the app. See the link in my signature for more info.

This worked PERFECTLY! Just look in my sig to see what I'm running now. I absolutely love it. This is the best my phone has ever run!

I have rooted my Droid with Easy Root so as to have wifi tether. So far, that is the only reason I have wanted to root. I would like to get the OTA update to 2.2 when it comes later this week and not have to deal with doing it myself. Will I get it automatically if I am rooted? Should I unroot until I get it and then root again?

What version are you running on? A rooted stock 2.1? Yes, you'll get the update, and it'll break root, and you'll lose your WiFi tethering, and you'll have to root again. A rooted version of the FRG01A already released? Nope, you won't get the update.

I have been lurking here reading up on everything, I think I'm pretty well set, if I understand correctly, rooting and then installing clockworkmod will also get me the clockwork recovery as well and I can backup the current default 2.2 software and then install a new theme if I want? If I want to go back I can just recover the backup I did and get back to default theme? Really only interested in the themes for right now.

Got it in one. Thank you for making everyone's life easier by reading up on things! :-D dancedroid
