Even More Froyo

As hook said, this is not anything Verizon will ever push out. Verizon isn't ready to push 2.2 out yet and whatever they do make available...this isn't it.

As for how it gets installed, the market update, flash, etc...check out link 1 in my signature. Post 13.

That's the thread for the first 2.2 release. This is the thread for the second (hence "more froyo") release. The instructions there are still valid and point to the file in this thread's first post.

OK...posting my experience.

I had an issue with the file I downloaded from the link in the OP. Not sure if it was a problem with that file or with transfering it from my computer to my Droid. When I realized I had a problem was in SPRecovery it said Can't Open E;/update.zip (bad file) aborting...blah blah blah". So I immediately deleted the update.zip from my sdcard and the original file I downloaded. Didn't even look to see what the problem might have been. I did notice the file on my SDCard was 7 mb and I knew it was supposed to be close to 77 mb. So I downloaded it directly from MyDroidWorld.

Tried to install without wiping data and cache. Had to try. I had a good backup so what harm could it do? Welll...it got stuck in the bootloop.

Went into SPRecovery...wipped data...wiped cache...reinstalled update.zip...wiped cache...wiped data again. Booted right up.

Logged into google account (after trying about ten different password combos...that was a little scary. Turns out I must have typed it wrong the first time cuz the first password I used was the right one). All my apps are in my app tray except for my GPS software that I could not find when I installed the first and second leak of Froyo. I hope the Market Fix works with this leak.

So chalk one more tick in the "Needed to wipe cache and data" column.

Running Pierce@MyDroidWorld #212. kernel. Not sure if that came with the update.zip or if it is my old P3Droid 1000mhz kernel. But it feels pretty snappy so may just leave it alone for now. I have all P3s kernels for froyo on my sdcard so it won't be hard to play around with those.

Off to see if I can find Flash now.

Nate

The Nexus theme I put onto my update (84B) seems to be the culprit to why my phones so messed up. It worked fine, but the apps didnt load, anything. Right now I'm STILL trying to manage to get my sd card to load all my apps. It loads my photos, videos, music, but NOT the stuff I ned to have my apps show up. Thus leading me to believe the apps2sd DOESNT work on this build. SO...I'm going back to BB V0.3 and the auto apps2sd.

HOPEfully my apps show up again. Or I'll have ot format my sd card when I get home.

Nate, I had the same issue with Flash and I found it on my SD card using Astro. No need to go wondering around the web.

Thanks to Tank for cluing me into that.

Vzw 2.2 update will be slow, restrictive, closing all root exploits, and probably put a tab on the usb tethering option in the setting so to make sure they are getting paid.
To each his/her own. If you prefer to do things dress right dress, by the book, 100% compliance with your user agreement with vzw. Then I would suggest you wait until August.

Where have you received your erroneous information about what VZW will or will not push out. What I can say is this, this is the release, scheduled for very early August, yes it will not be rooted, I received it not rooted.

Would you care to place a wager on who is correct? :)

When you flash the market fix does it change your build.prop?

Sent from my Droid using Tapatalk

Yes, it changes the build.prop, and makes the build appear as "voles test keys 33333" or something like that in settings>about phone. I'm sure someone out there knows how to fix that since it is a little annoying, but it gets the job done as far as the market.

I would wager it, but I am not risking my phone on it lol. I would rather keep this on there. That way I know I am still rooted with my goodies.

Mess around with vzw you be on the forum crying and begging for rsdlite. It will have all the stuff in here now minus the nice o/c kernel and no root exploit. I have no plans on trying that with my phone. I will do that with christim's phone :D

Stock kernel ?

May I ask what for, you can install all apps, maps update work. It is at the default setting.. I am curious why you would want that.

The information I wrote, above, is talking about the rom in this thread. That rom is rooted. That rom will not be the official Verizon OTA they roll out to the public. This is 100% assumption on my part for no inside source at Verizon told me this would be the case. You are telling me otherwise though?

I'm also aware you are probably more intimate with this rom than I am. I'd like to thank you for the effort that went into you becoming so because it benefits far more than just you. Thanks.

But back to the rom...
Besides the rooted copy of that rom, in the op of this thread, my understanding is there is also a non-rooted copy and that appears to be what you speak of. My thoughts where Verizon is not done with their copy. They will change it to suite their needs, whatever those needs may happen to be. If what we have in our hands now is exactly what they wanted to release and they were happy with it there would be no reason not to release it now that I can think of. Especially not to wait 1.2 months.

I've read into your reply that you are stating what we have now is what they will release in early August via OTA. If so it should already have the pay for tethering app in place, or am I mistaken there? If so, why do I not see it?

Great, gotta quote myself because I can't edit. I thought I was in the "more froyo" thread. I see I am in the "even more froyo" thread. And starting my reading from the wrong end of it too:)
