Galaxy Nexus: Looks Like December Launch

To the ones with the dying OG Droids, is it due to hardware or software? Are you rooted? Every few months, I'll install a new rom and my OG is like-new again. And with the right kernel, it's amazing. It's because of this phone, I don't NEED another phone at the moment, but I 'want' the GN.
I appreciate the ability to root and manipulate the processor the longer I own this phone, as I realize how many non-rooting owners are currently struggling with their OGs, thinking it's dead. You all are missing out big time! Again, this is meant for the non-rooters. If it's a hardware issue, well, that's a different story.

Yeah I'm non rooted, completely stock, phone is slow, battery last 3hrs of heavy usage. I want to root it and I might just do that this weekend until the GN. Idk much about all that but I have a buddy that has his D2 rooted and his is awesome so maybe I should do this until the GN comes out that way I'm thanking it will feel like I have a new phone until then. So thanks diggy, maybe u just sparked something in my OG and the 2 week wait won't feel as long :)

I honestly think the LTE part of the equation is what is messing everything up. LTE is still in its infancy and causing issues. And ICS did have to be slightly modified for the LTE application over the other applications, so that is probably throwing a wrench into the works. Look at the other LTE phone problems that have happened with Verizon. Throw a new operating system on top of it and the issue is compounded.

I stopped by the mobile-phone booth @ Costco today while buying food for Thursday. The guy I talked to there is on Verizon and is also waiting for the G-Nex himself - he wants to replace an old HTC phone he's been using for a while. He also told me that the drop date was next month some time, mainly due to "software problems" - my guess is the same as yours - getting ICS to work on Verizon's LTE network.

I wasn't figuring on pulling the trigger until after New Year's because of all of the holiday BS and expenses anyway...my OG Droid is running great on GB 2.3.7, and I'd rather they get the Nexus mostly de-bugged BEFORE I fork over the cash, not after. Look at all the issues the Bionic is having...I'll pass on that drama, thanks.

Definite +1 on this, I feel the same way...I *want* the Nexus but really don't *need* it yet - my OG is working fine. If yours is bogging down, I'd suggest CM 7.1 and Link2SD (remember to re-partition your SD card) - it's given my OG a definite second life.

Couldn't say I didn't see it coming:frown:

dead links, friend

They never should have announced the phone in Hong Kong. It would be nice if just one of these mobile companies had some sort of beta testing and quality control. Totally pathetic.

I'm so close to just switching to AT&T or Sprint and getting a decent phone that will also get ICS early next year. Switching will get me the phone for just a penny over at Amazon. If it's not released by the 8th, I'm going to say eff you VZW and go elsewhere. According to head honchos at both Google and Samsung, the Nexus was supposed to be released "this month" (ie, November). Now it's December. I have little doubt that the "rumored dates" will continue to get pushed back in the January. When videos are released about Hitler ranting about the Nexus, VZW has to know they completely borked the release of this phone.

The only drawback (which was probably predictable), is if the Nexus is having some ICS-related issues on VZW it will be just that much longer before VZW approves upgrade pushes to phones like the RAZR and so forth.

I gave up waiting for it, and went for the Rezound this past Friday. Couldn't be happier. After comparing the phones, I realized that hardware-wise, the Rezound is just as good, if not better, than the Nexus. I don't need NFC, and the Rezound will get ICS in due time. Only thing the Nexus appears to have over the Rezound is the SLIGHTLY larger screen, NFC, which I don't need, and ICS out of the box.

It will feel like a new phone, no doubt! It took me 9 months to overcome my fear of playing with the bootloader, but with all the great threads in the Droid section, it was very easy to follow. I promise you will be mind-blown after reinstalling a fresh Android OS. Liquid 3.2 just came out, so that will keep me tamed until the Nexus comes out.
I'm an IT tech, so I am always reformatting PCs and reinstalling operating systems. It's crazy how a fresh OS can make a PC like-new again. The concept is the same when it comes to phones. My Droid is probably faster than a lot of the newer phones, due to the optimization features that we can toggle. Do it man! :icon_ banana:

Maybe it won't come out until next October...lol...but then they'ed have to rename it to the Bionic..I'm glad I got the Razr (Awesome Phone) by the time the Nexus comes out it wont be the only phone with ICS. That's probably why Google released ICS source

The Rezound has better specs.....and is the screen really larger or is it larger to accommodate the onscreen dock buttons....by the way how's the battery life?

The system the phone is on in Europe is not the same LTE system as in America, so there are internals and programs that are different. And this was supposed to be "our" phone? Never caught that part of the equation.

An lte radio is a minor difference. And the phone was supposed to be exclusive to VZW, that's a fact.
