GOODBYE Thunderbolt - After 1 week of constant battery drainage, i gave up

You guys must just use your phone too much. Mine was taken off the charger today at 7am..its now 1pm and battery still shows 75%. as long as I charge mine at night when sleeping I am golden

On 3G actually, my DX still does FAR better than the TB...:(

I wish it was not true, I wish TB was getting 60 hours of constant 4G...but that's not the case. This phone eats your battery alive.

You must have some different settings in your display, running programs or in the frequency or number of accounts being sync'ed. I literally have everything equal on my TBolt that I did with my DX and I have the same battery experience.

Under accounts how can I remove the stocks one, the weather and stuff? I want to I don't use stocks, and I don't need weather and news to update I put those to sync NEVER.
Running programs? Like what for example. What do you think might be causing battery drain, I don't really have too many apps yet. I still have 2.38 gb left under internal memory.

I don't have any apps to control battery though, I hear people using juice defender, and someone mentioned another app yesterday but I haven't tried it yet (powermax, and another one combined)

The battery is getting better I think. I think with normal use in 11 hours it would be dead.

I'm hoping for some sort of update to be pushed towards our devices. My phone can do just fine on my home WiFi, but once I'm off spring break it's going to be tough. My college's WiFi is horrible so I'm going to be stuck on 4G.

With WiFi my phone can last >12 hours with light-moderate use.
With 4G my phone can last ~5 hours with light-moderate use.
Try this. Worked a bit for one of the guys in my office. I would save the number to contacts so can easily switch back to 4G when available.

Exactly why I returned it!!

I just use my phone too much.

You can't remove them, but just go in, uncheck the boxes and go back to the Accounts and Sync screen and the "green" sync icon should be gray.

Check Settings>Applications>Running Services. Anything in there that you don't want running, you can press it, and it should stop the service from runnning. Obviously there are some that are required to run, but look for any "sore thumbs" there first. Then go back to Applications and press "Manage Applications" and click the Running tab. Search and stop any suspect programs there as well.

Do you understand what I'm saying though, champaned_out?

If his wife only has to charge her phone every other night, then her screen on time can't be any greater than 2-3 hours of the total time (apparently 48 hours). I think everyone would agree that if she is only going to be using it for that little, than his $250 could be put to much more useful things (bills, college funds, etc.).

meh. 250 is 250.
Going to be different for everyone.
For some, that's a pair of shoes.
For some, that's 2 nights out to dinner with the family.
For others, its a golf club.
For others, it may not even be enough for a new purse.

I think people would rather have the Thunderbolt than be able to pay one utility bill one time.

What?!?! I paid less than $200 for an entire set of golf clubs...and a bag. What kind of clubs are you guys using? And what are you using those clubs for? No one has ever beat me in a game of golf. Dayum!

Nate ;)

sorry for this off topic post but I just gotta point out that $250 for a golf club is not really that much. My current setup is worth over $2000 in fact, the shafts in my driver and 3wood alone are worth $300+ a piece...my irons ran me $1200...

I like my golf equipment like I like my phones, the latest and greatest and top of the line...

Again, sorry for the off topic post, golf is just a passion of mine.

Yes. Motorola phones have better battery life than HTC phones why would that change....

This is flat-out incorrect. Had a Droid X and Thunderbolt side-by-side for a couple of weeks. Both with 4"+ screens, both on 3G network, both had identical display settings/brightness, both had the same accounts syncing at the same intervals. On the standard battery for both phones, I had equal battery performance, if not better with my Thunderbolt phones (I had two, one was a Pre-Prod, and then I bought one on release day.)

HTC Thunderbolt Review - Battery, Pricing, Value, & Verdict

According to this review, the Droid X gets double the battery life compared to the Thunderbolt. Is anybody else getting the same or better battery life with a Thunderbolt compared to their old phone? I find that hard to believe.

While my TBolt's battery life isn't as good as what my retired Droid could do, it is still respectable now.

After rooting and cleaning up some of the bloatware my battery life went from "meh" to "hmmm...". I then loaded up VirusROM and my battery life is through the roof. While still not on par with my Droid (I used Chevy's ULV kernel @ 800MHz with SetCPU profiles) I get probably close to 12 hours at this point if not more with moderate usage and I'm in a 4G area.

I pulled the phone off the charger at 830am this morning. Used the phone HEAVILY and at about 230pm still had 53%. By heavily I mean I was streaming the last part of the GSTL this morning while at work (Flash destroys battery life). Then moved to multiple phone calls, streaming Pandora, multiple texts, Gchat, and quite a few rounds of Angry Birds while eating lunch. So I was at about an average of 12 hours under heavy usage. Give or take.

There's running apps there that I opened yesterday lol, I wish you could just completely exit apps and android would shut them off.

The battery has been getting better I think, it still won't go full day that's for sure. After the 2750 battery it should turn into a little beast though.

Was it hard rooting it? I would like to root my phone also, but I never did it on any phones and I'm afraid to sort of. And I wouldn't know what to download on it to remove things. I don't care about making the phone look prettier (I used to) but not anymore, it's pretty enough. I just wanna root it so I can delete the things I don't need. Maybe eventually I'll wanna pretty it up lol

I found it easy but I've played with ADB and the SDK before. If you haven't then I'd suggest learning it first or waiting for a One-click method. Like this one. ;)

Good idea to find the battery leak!

To the OP, and anyone else that is complaining of battery life, someone in a different thread mentioned a method to figuring out the issue, and it is a great idea if you have the time and patience.

  • Ensure you write down or back up any Accounts/Syncs and remember icon and widget placements.
  • Do a Factory Reset of your phone.
  • Add only your Google account to the phone.
  • Dump down the screen brightness to what it was before (30% or lower is best).
  • Fully charge your phone.
  • Run for a full day and note the length of time it lives.
  • Fully charge the phone and add another Account/Sync and add an App or Two.
  • Run for a day and note the length of time it lives.
  • Repeat until you notice a huge change in the uptime, then that is likely the App/Account causing the issue.

If you do locate the App or account, you would can try tweaking the settings within the app or modifying the Sync frequency/settings.

Wow, lol, that's why I bought it! The life we get out of 1400mah is what we all should have expected. Should htc have put a larger capacity battery in the first place? Of course, probably 2000 mah would have been the sweet spot. But I never expected more out of this powerhouse than it gives. I mean my D1 had a bigger battery, and I could kill it before I left work on a medium-heavy usage day.
