GOODBYE Thunderbolt - After 1 week of constant battery drainage, i gave up

Isn't the title of the thread "GOODBYE Thunderbolt - After 1 week of constant battery drainage, i gave up"....

I probably wouldn't post here if I "didn't care"... I guess I'm weird like that....

OOOK, I'm going to reopen this thread but I have a couple of things to say first.

Flaming stoops now. I'm immediately putting people at notice that I will enforce the 30 day vacation policy for flaming, and that goes to whomever does it. PM's have been sent out to individuals concerned.

One other thing to keep in mind. This is the Droid Forum. You come in here singing the praise of iPhone and get flamed for it, you're kind of asking for it. If you like apple products you'll need to tread lightly here. That doesn't mean to anyone here that it's open season on iPhone people, I'm just letting them know that they are going to have to be cautious as well.

Treat each other with respect, that's the #1 rule around here. Now saying that I'll open the thread again. Anymore isssues it will be shut down and infractions handed out to the ones responsible.

"On the battery side, the Atrix 4G packs an impressive 1930mAh battery inside, and even though Android is data intensive, we found ourselves squeezing more than 24 hours out of the device on a single charge with fairly heavy use. You can probably get more time out of the device if you avoid calls when possible and keep your brightness settings in check, but we were pleasantly surprised by the performance we saw."

"We are still conducting our battery drain tests, but we are getting 7 to 10 hours of continuous talk time on a single charge."

What were you saying about the Atrix battery?

Is the Atrix running on a LTE network? Apples to oranges good sir.

My TB is not running on an LTE network. My battery is terrible with 3g only... So oranges to oranges...

Anyway, that was a response to the person who said the reviews pegged the Atrix battery as being worse than the TB.

I agree respect is important. we all work hard and paid good $ for our phones.
That being said and I've said before, my hubby works for a VZW call center and being polite will get you much much further than being nasty and rude! But were all adults and if the TB works better for some ppl than others then I respect that. My hubby got the iPhone when employees were able and then they TB came out he returned the iPhone. We have an ipad and realized it does everything he needed from the iPhone. He also dId he missed the android OS and customization options. I am glad I came across the DF app bc I have learned some things to help my battery life and the phone in general so I wanted to just say thank you!

Oh really? I'd like to see what data plan it is that you have that says anything about 4g...

My plan says 4g and I don't live anywhere near 4g service :) I have the following listed:

"4G DATA TRANSPORT"
"4G APPLICATION ACCESS"
"4G INTERNET ACCESS"

and for some reason I have this, too: "3G DEVICE", although I have the TB!?!

Not all areas have 4G coverage ...yet... I know in Wilmington nc were supposed to be getting 4g in June. Hubby said the 4g turns on and off a bit right now due to them testing it. Keep in mind this is a new thing for VZW with the 4g devices and all.

Do you understand what I'm saying though, champaned_out?

If his wife only has to charge her phone every other night, then her screen on time can't be any greater than 2-3 hours of the total time (apparently 48 hours). I think everyone would agree that if she is only going to be using it for that little, than his $250 could be put to much more useful things (bills, college funds, etc.).

meh. 250 is 250.
Going to be different for everyone.
For some, that's a pair of shoes.
For some, that's 2 nights out to dinner with the family.
For others, its a golf club.
For others, it may not even be enough for a new purse.

I think people would rather have the Thunderbolt than be able to pay one utility bill one time.

What?!?! I paid less than $200 for an entire set of golf clubs...and a bag. What kind of clubs are you guys using? And what are you using those clubs for? No one has ever beat me in a game of golf. Dayum!

Nate ;)

He said they would activate it and make sure my 4g connection worked properly (quick function test), but they could not test for the battery issue. He wouldn't explain why.

what do you expect them to do? sit there for several hours while they test and read individual batteries and see if the battery is defective? theres nothing anyone can do when it comes to battery issues. no cell phone store or corporate verizon store will test for battery issues... the best they can do is replace your phone... if you really want to find out if theres a battery issue, buy the equipment and google the instructions

Not at all. What I wanted was for someone to do a simple check before purchase. Reboot the phone a couple of times at the store to see if the problem with the reported battery levels showed up. This would have taken all of 5 minutes. I don't think the batteries are the problem anyway. Yes the stock one is a bit under-rated for this phone, but in my case the phone itself had the problem. I would have been happy to get another Tbolt. In fact I was really hoping to go home with a Thunderbolt and forget about my initial problems with the first one.

I don't think I was being unreasonable by asking that they check it. I'm really not that hard to please. If the battery only lasted two hours and the phone would be in the general ball park reporting battery levels, I could work with that. A phone that has a 7 hour battery but dies when it reports 25% charge I cannot deal with. That's just me. I don't like surprises.

Yes. Motorola phones have better battery life than HTC phones why would that change....

This is flat-out incorrect. Had a Droid X and Thunderbolt side-by-side for a couple of weeks. Both with 4"+ screens, both on 3G network, both had identical display settings/brightness, both had the same accounts syncing at the same intervals. On the standard battery for both phones, I had equal battery performance, if not better with my Thunderbolt phones (I had two, one was a Pre-Prod, and then I bought one on release day.)

Also, the 3g dropping is a deal breaker. It actually dropped twice while typing this. I have 4 full bars though... My D1 never dropped signal in a covered area.

If that is the case in your area, then that would suck... each person is different though. My area may be awesome for Verizon but crappy for AT&T, your experience may be the opposite. At my house, side-by-side with my Droid X, the Thunderbolt had identical signal (varies from 2 to 5 bars) when holding in a normal manner.

I'm going to talk the rep into keeping 4g on my bill though to lock in the price. I'm going with that mission in mind. I shoulda went with my first instinct and waited for the Bionic. I guess I paid 35 to be a beta tester...

On my bill (business account) the Data plan is called "Smartphone/PDA Unlimited Data Plan" and makes no mention or distinction of 4G/3G. Also, I asked my VZW account manager and was told that there are no plans for them to change to a 4G vs. 3G data plan pricing distinction. I also asked if the Data plan pricing was going to change and was told that it was not anytime soon.

Potential buyers beware!!! This phone stinks!
**In this person's honest opinion.**
There are plenty of others both on these message boards as well as Tech Bloggers and Reviewers that disagree with that statement.

You don't think you were being unreasonable, but you were... you simply can't run a business like that. The only places that have that kind of time and/or ability to offer those services are "mom & pop" shops, and I don't believe that there are any mom & pop cell phone stores.

My battery is dropping so quick...I'm scared to let my friends with iphones play with it. You literally watch the battery drop, as you type. I'm scared to type a text message cause the battery WILL drop. If I use the internet, forget it...and it seems as though there's no difference between using 4G or 3G. Either way, the phone will not last more than 9 hours or so...I really hope that extended battery does better.

Had a scare today in the morning too, after a day of owning it the service stayed at 1X for an hour, and kept jumping down to no internet and 1X several times. I don't know why it's only been a day of owning it. Why so many glitches, it's sad.

Something is wrong either with your phone, your battery, both, or possibly settings/applications. What is your screen brightness set at?

Battery was set to automatic (so around 20-25%), I changed it to the lowest possible now which is LOW. But when I change the brightness through the power widget, it doesnt bring it back to the lowest point it brings back to automatic when I lower it.

Settings are the way people have them to conserve battery, I even took off 4G. I'm on my second charge right now, the battery has been running for 2.5 hours on 3G, with some texts (like 20) and it's at 80%....BUT, when I open the phone I literally watch the percentage drop every time the screen is on. The rest of the time it doesn't kill battery. When I use my phone minimally, it loses 1% every 3 mins or so, when I use the internet it uses 1% every 40 seconds or so (max)....

ALSO, when I restart the phone it kills anywhere from 10-20 percent. Why is that? Before I had it charging, it read 65 and I restarted the phone while charging and it jumped to 91. In a matter of seconds.

Should I use JUST the TB charger that Verizon gave me? I used a charger I had before which I used for my DX as well and it fits, and charges it, but does it hurt the battery in any way?
