GPS Outage in East Texas?

Good god I'm glad I saw this... I've been freaking out in Longview for hours. Stopped working in dekalb. Hope it works in texarkana. Looking for a place to live tomorrow. . Small world..

I was able to get a GPS lock last night for the first time in 2-3 weeks. It worked for me this morning until I got to the Bullard area and it dropped. I had posted on the Google Mobile Help Forum that I had been working with Verizon trying to gather phone numbers in our area to help them locate the problem. I was told by a network engineer that if its not working in the next 3-4 days to call him back. He offered to give me credit on the bill, but I don't really care I never called to ***** and be angry I was just curious if there was something wrong with my phone.

I actually called Verizon to try to give them my number after you asked in the other forum. Got yet another tech that had absolutely no clue what I was talking about. When did he give you the 3-4 day estimate? What day will it be fixed on (supposedly)?

Lol, you talking about Bullard hits close to home. I'm just a few miles east of there...

Yeah the network guy was somewhat baffled with the fact that no front line phone techs were aware of the issue. He called me at 1130 Saturday morning. I can attest that it does work when you leave the area. Two Fridays ago is when I first noticed that it wasn't working, because I left that morning for south Louisiana. On 84 east when I got to Logansport, La it started working...I wouldn't know if it worked on 84 anyways between Jacksonville and Joaquin because Verizon has no signal there to begin with. It worked great all the way to Morgan City, La and back to about Wascom, Tx when it stopped again.

Im from Whitehouse but live in Brownsboro now.

Lol, sounds like you are on the case man. Keep it up! I have talked to the locals here and one or two phone techs that were semi aware of the problem.

However, all I kept getting was this answer: "It's a problem with Google. Try using our (redundant and overpriced) VZ Navigator service instead" Whenever they said that, I immediately called Shenanigans and figured they were talking total upsale BS. They all need to stop that immediately...

By the way, it's kind of creepy talking to all these people about this that are only a few miles away. Isn't there a law that says that everyone you talk to on the internet must be totally anonymous and across an ocean from you?

Edit: The one guy that seemed to know anything at all said it should be fixed by Wednesday. That jives with what your guy said. Maybe that's a good sign that it will actually be fixed soon. *crosses fingers*

hahaha yup it is strange. I have lurked on this site since its inception. I actually kind of thought I was the only person around here that even knew it existed.

I know, right? I keep expecting to run into someone at fracking Brookshires and have them mention my posts or something, hehehe.

Anyway, here's hoping for Wednesday. If your engineer contacts you again, please pass any word along.

Hell we're all close enough, we could just activate the Twilight Bark ;)

hahaha...no problem. I will pass any word I get along. I don't claim to be any kind of phone genius at all...it just seems that when I made my call to tech support it seemed to be the one that got the ball rolling.

Just got my replacement phone from vz. The first thing i did after i activated it was load gps status and it worked. It found 10 sat. and fixed onto 6 of them and pin pointed me. So either they got it working since this morning or it was truly my other phone that had a malfunction. But if they havent got it working I dont see how this fr phone could work when my orginal phone, yalls phones and even one of my coworkers lg phones werent working as of this morning.

like wilydodger i was on liberty for the new .588 leak when i first noticed the problem. I sbfed 3 times and it still wasnt working so i called vz and got them to send me this replacement. After all that i found these threads that made me think that even this new phone wouldnt work so i started not to even try it out. So I guess I'll be keeping this phone and returning my other one.

Ok to update. I rebooted the new phone and took it back outside with my coworkers lg. His phone still wasnt working so I tried it again after the reboot on my new phone and what do you know it isnt working. GPS test and Gps status only can find 2 sats and google maps cant find me at all. Crazy stuff.

Location, location, location

I have been spending a lot of time with VERIZON techs and of course none of them have heard a thing about this issue. So they sent me a used Incredible to replace my suspected defective one. Activation... same problem. Another hour and a half and they said they would send another phone of my choice. I now have a schoolbus size Droid X. A tivation... 1 1/2 hr tech call. They were clueless. I found this forum about two weeks too late. The last tech and his super denied any Verizon responsibility with this problem and gave me a non toll free Google number. I will now wait patiently at the mercy or the cellular gods.

Well, it was supposed to be resolved this Wednesday (according to my local Verizon store), no luck on my end yet though. From the sound of thing, everyone else is still out too?
