[GUIDE] Milestone XT720 - Apps2SD and Froyo JIT

I found a few minor bugs in the V4 Russia SBF version, very minor that is doesn't affect the performance... but just an eyesore.. Hahaha...
If you were to Step 4 - deleting the apps.
At Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Filter -> Downloaded -> All the deleted apps will be displayed there...

Another that I saw was the '&' symbol on the stock keyboard, it's displayed as '&amp'...
:D

You're da man!!! :D *thumbs up*

p.s. Btw, can i know the way to edit the GUI? I would like to work on the nexTheme, or maybe create a theme myself...

The links above provide most of the information you need to port a theme to the XT720.

Using your ADB access from a computer type in: adb pull /system

This will pull the entire system directory from your phone to the working directory on your computer. For theming what you need are the /system/app directory the /system/framework directory. In the framework folder the primary files to edit are framework-res.apk and services.jar.

It's a pain-in-the-butt the first time, but it gets easier after a few themes. Just keep in mind that even on the same phone you need to start from scratch for each new software update! Trying to re-use the framework-res.apk or services.jar between different software releases is ill advised.

Impressive work Navalynt, i'm kinda new here because i recently bought an XT720, it's the european version (i'm italian guy), so i want to ask, if there is any problem to flash the US rom with rsdlite, i'm just asking because i had a milestone european who cannot load any US rom because the CDMA / GSM issue.

Cannot be converted, the american system uses a different radio altogether, also there is no american version of the XT720 atm. So no firmware to dl

really bad, nava what happened if i try to load your optimizer on italy firmware?

As mentioned in the first you post you MUST flash the US CBW firmware first. It's still the same WCDMA frequencies as the Central Europe, Italy, and Russia version so it shouldn't cause a problem. If you look back a few pages you'll find links to v3 which is paired to Italy firmware and v4 which is paired to the Russian firmware.

My XT720 is the only one I can 100% vouch for and it was originally a Singapore model but is now flashed over with the US CBW firmware and working perfectly fine. I don't see why this wouldn't work for other European or Asian XT720 models but it's entirely at your own risk.

mh ok so the Milestone XT720 is really hardware different from the Milestone common one. sound nice, i deal with that and i'll try flashing it anyway, thank you for pointed me.

u wrong dude.US sbf also can use for different country, but u need setting up APN manually. US sbf not detect apn like another sbf.Seriosly this sbf awesome. Anyway im from malaysia using singapore set.

in US they have both GSM and CDMA networks supplied by different telcos. in xt720 case, they are brought in by cincinnati bell that operates on GSM networks, which is why the american sbf is applicable to other xt720 in other regions.

my concern with american sbf is that, the default unit settings might be set to metric units, which is why the battery stat widget that i use is wrongly reporting temperature as 90+ celsius instead of 30+. 90+ is clearly in fahrenheit unit. hopefully this wont mess something up like monitoring app etc.

a question for navalynt: there might be ppl who would not be interested in app2sd (me included - or is it just me? :D ) could you make the dalvik-cache relocation an option instead of built-in the apps2sd code? again, thanks for the great work that you have done.
