Having An Issue With 2.1 - Come In Here

Concerning the Google Earth issue I am having similar problem. When I first did the Manual Update I found and installed Google Earth easily. Later I thought it ws too big and uninstalled it. NOW, I can not find it on the market and when I use the browser to go to it directly m.google.com/earth I get a FC, screen goes black for 30 seconds and then home page comes up.

The only thing I did between when I could find and install it and now was uninstall 2 "odd" very small apps found in my downloaded apps in Manage Applications. They appeared to be leftovers from a previous unistalled apps before updating (Gallery and Inputmethod). Sizes were 8kb and 16kb and the versions are both "0". I now have a sneaking suspicion they were some sort of extra code needed for Google Earth.

If someone can do a backup of these apps(Astro didn't see them, but I think MyBackup will) and upload them in a zip file it would be interesting to reinstall them to confirm this is the issue for everyone. If not I will reinstall the 2.1 Update and see if they are back, but would prefer to do just those apps (obviously).

Screen caps of the 2 "odd" apps..

928Droid - I just noticed the same thing on my phone. I do have Google Earth installed from the market. I was thinking that these two files are remnants of something that was updated or installed during the update. I ran the update manually. Does anyone who got the OTA update see the same thing?

Reinstalling 2.1 the update, will have news in few minutes....

Those apps didn't show back up when I ran the update again.. still no Google Earth and as I said get FC and black "hung up" Browser screen when going directly to m.google.com/earth (as spec'd on Google Earth page).

Need to find direct download link for Google Earth app to test 3rd party install...

I don't think that's the case. I did nothing to any other apps, and I'm sure most other people didn't either.

928Droid - Interesting, I wonder if I should reinstall as well. I don't have any other problems with it. I just don't want weird stuff showing up on my phone if I do need to take a trip to the verizon store.

To start, I manually updated my Droid to 2.1 the first morning the update.zip file became available from the "Google server."

With regards to the Google Earth issue, I currently don't see Google Earth in the Market. HOWEVER, it was one of the first apps shown on the Market immediately after I updated to 2.1, and I was able to download it without issue.

So I'm thinking it might not be a direct issue with the update itself, but rather Google Earth is temporarily pulled from the Market.

Google Earth shows up for me and that's after a Factory Reset. I had a lot of problems before my reset, probably due to the amount of .apk files I had previously installed as well as rooting and unrooting numerous times.

I know it's a PIA but the reset really helped a lot, thankfully it fixed the gmail sync issues as well.

You will probably spend more time trying to fix an issue than just biting the bullet and resetting.

How about those two random applications? Should I try to do a factory reset or just reinstall the update on top of my already updated Droid?

help/question

I am having an issue and this is the thread. I think. Too many to go through. I amnually updated to 2.1. Does this root or unroot me? I have no clue what this means. Will I be able to recieve updateds to the apps I already have? I am just proud that I got the update done myself. But the rest of this stuff may as well be in french/russian/and pig latin combined.

HELP!!!!

Can you make Google Earth your wallpaper? How if so...
