Having An Issue With 2.1 - Come In Here

Galaxy one... but it lags on all the live wallpaper pretty much.

Yes I did a battery pull for about 10 mins.
hmmm.....strange.

I'm going to assume you are NOT running an anti-virus program.

I read that you were going to do a factory reset. I think at this point it certainly won't hurt since your device's performance is so degraded. I'd give it a shot (factory reset)

Let us know what you do and how it works out.

Does Blue Tooth voice dialing work now with 2.1?
If not, have you noticed anything improved with BT and 2.1?

2.1 updat & tethering

I understand if you accept the update you can no longer tether. I just want to tether so I can use my computers larger monitor when working with spreadsheets etc and the ability to print. Any help appreciated Not new to computing but new to droid using Version Motorola Droid A822

Where did you get this information from? I think you posted the same question in another thread and there was no answer for it. Maybe if you give us an idea of where you heard this we can find out something for you.

By tether are you referring to tether for network/internet access or mounting via USB to access files on the sd card?

Either way, I am able to still do both. Mounting the sd card works fine. To test the Tether ability I am posting this with my laptop connected to the internet through my droid using Tether for Android.

You may be referring to WiFi Tether. WiFi Tether requires root access to work and the 2.1 update, if applied to a rooted phone, will remove root access. There are ways to regain root access on 2.1 as well though.

where I got info about tethering restructed with update

I got it right here, here is the info on the post I read

No Anti-Virus on my phone... yeah not sure what the deal is.

Tethering

Yes I want to tether my phone to my computer for internet access using the USB cable I am using PdaNet for Android. I downloaded the Motorola handheld driver then installed PdaNet. It created the connection to the computer to the phone. Works great, but then I saw the post and was afraid to download the update. I figure Version knew folks were doing this and updated a restriction in the background. So you can still tether your phone and access the internet?

Yes, he is referring to WiFi Tether only. If you never rooted your phone before and installed one of the WiFi Tether apps, then you never had that ability to begin with.

I think you may be confused on what the word "tether" means in this context. It simply means that you are able to use your phone's data connection as an internet connection for your computer.

Can still tether

So do you mean if I uncheck WiFi I can still tether. You used Tether for Android? Thanks

tethering help

I just got the phone on Monday. Did not download any WiFi apps. I guess where I am confused is with the word WIFI. I thought you had to have WiFi checked in the settings to do this. That is all I have done to change settings. I am assuming that "rooting" is something you do and not how the phone comes originally. How can I tell if my phone is rooted? Can I assume if I didn't deliberately root my phone then its not.

Yes, rooting is something you have to do deliberately and requires booting into the phone's recovery mode. You would know if you were rooted.

As for the WiFi issue, the phone has WiFi capability so that you can use any available WiFi network to get better speed when browsing the web on the phone.

WiFi Tether is the opposite. WiFi Tether would be for times when you don't have an internet connection for your computer (like when traveling with a laptop) and you use the phone's internet connection for your computer. WiFi tether will only work on a rooted phone. Rooting is not supported by Verizon, Motorola, or Google and is technically against the rules.
