Having An Issue With 2.1 - Come In Here

I'm still able to see Google Earth in my market just fine. I can search for it or, right now, it's also the 2nd item in the list if I go to Market>Apps tab>Travel>Top Free. Shows 3rd in the list in Market>Apps tab>All applications.

If you guys want I can install it and upload the .apk somewhere but that's not a good solution since 3rd party installs aren't able to use the market to updatae the software later. But if someone really wants it I'll post it somewhere.

To start, I manually updated my Droid to 2.1 the first morning the update.zip file became available from the "Google server."

With regards to the Google Earth issue, I currently don't see Google Earth in the Market. HOWEVER, it was one of the first apps shown on the Market immediately after I updated to 2.1, and I was able to download it without issue.

So I'm thinking it might not be a direct issue with the update itself, but rather Google Earth is temporarily pulled from the Market.

So you and 928Droid experienced the same thing.

It must be a Market issue.

You both found and downloaded Google Earth right after the update but now cannot find it. Nothing had changed except time.

I am having an issue and this is the thread. I think. Too many to go through. I amnually updated to 2.1. Does this root or unroot me? I have no clue what this means. Will I be able to recieve updateds to the apps I already have? I am just proud that I got the update done myself. But the rest of this stuff may as well be in french/russian/and pig latin combined.

HELP!!!!

Can you make Google Earth your wallpaper? How if so...

If you don't know what "root" means then you weren't rooted. :)

You now have exactly the same 2.1 that anyone who gets their update over the air. You will get updates going forward just like anyone else.

As for google earth as a wallpaper, I seem to remember reading that this is possible but I don't remember if that was for our Droid or the Nexus One. Either way, from what I remember it was said that it made the phone very sluggish. Or maybe I'm just getting too old and can't remember things accurately anymore. :)

Hmm, I traced your steps to the free travel apps. Not there for me.

928Droid - When you reinstalled 2.1 to see if those two com. android....applications were still showing up under the installed applications menu, did you just run the manual update again right over top of the existing installation of 2.1? I also noticed that there are now two voice search applications when I check the currently running applications. Does anyone else have this?

I did the manual update yesterday and have noticed a couple things, when on the home screen i can not get the orientation to change unless i pull out the keyboard, also the keyboard backlighting seems to flake out, cut on cut off.Anyone else havin this issue?

The home screen has NEVER rotated on any stock ROM version without pulling out the keyboard. People seem to think it did but it never did unless you rooted and downloaded a custom ROM.

The backlight issue is related to having auto-brightness turned on. I haven't played with it much, I rarely use the physical keyboard.

My keyboard backlight has always been flakey. I don't use auto-brightness. I've kinda gotten used to it, but it is a minor annoyance.

Google Earth is showing up for some and not for others. Very strange.

I've searched "Earth" "Google" "Google Earth" and it yielded no returns.

I don't want the app but find this rather odd.

Indeed. If there's any other Android experts or Google employees you know, you may want to alert them about this.

i think the manual update is not the right path to go when it comes to this things maybe the updated version was messed up or something, why not reset it to 2.0.1 and wait for the update to pop up and see if you still get the same problems? specially with not being able to find google earth

It's pulled DIRECTLY from "Google's servers"... There is gonna be NO difference from the manual update to the OTA.. It's the same data... lol

This is why they only released it to 1000 phones in the first place..

Then 200k

It's called bugs.. And when you take into account ALL the phones that were previously rooted and then updated the picture becomes clearer..

As for those that didn't root and have problems I'm sure there's an explanation for it..And I'm sure there are thousands of different bugs these non rooted people will be having..

2.1-Update1 says it all for me..

It's like ANY major update on ANY platform or video game.. Release the big one.. Wait.. Release updates.. Apple does this, Microsoft does this, Gaming companies do this.. Google does this..

Add me to the list of people not getting google earth in the market. :icon_eek: I manually updated.

This is so weird. I have it with the manual update, but its obvious there is some issue preventing people from seeing it. Im curious to see if those with an OTA update have the same inconsistancy. I would imagine so, since the update file is the same.

EDIT: ok, so i've read in other threads that people with OTA update dont have it either. It'll probably magically show up one day with no explaination from google! ;)

I am still getting lag pretty bad with the live wallpapers.

Running services right now:

Google - 7.4mb
GTalk Service
Voice Search - 2.6mb (Process: com.google.android.voicesearch)
Voice Search - 4.1mb (Process: com.android.inputmethod.voice)
Android Keyboard
Android LiveWallpaper - 14mb

**Avail: 51mb+65mb in 12**

What is going on with this... so slow with the app bar you pull up.
The only widget I have is the google search bar at the top.

The auto-brightness has not been functioning properly. It will drastically get brighter and darker, when there's been no change in ambient light.

Also, Direct Call shortcuts only show a person's avatar if it came from Facebook. People who's avatars I've selected amnually do not show on the desktop, I just get the default droid icon.
