Helix Launcher now available on Android Market

I am not rooted running 2.0.1 and it works flawlessly. Not one force close at all. Amazing.

I wish I could say the same. I'm not rooted, also running 2.0.1, and installed this yesterday. Had two FCs but otherwise loved it. Had five screens and really liked the permanent shortcuts at the bottom of the screen. Charged my phone yesterday afternoon and went to class. Phone was d-e-a-d after six hours, and I'd barely used it! Didn't have Wi-fi on and wasn't running anything that used GPS. I had no idea what had happened. Charged the phone overnight, and despite minimal web/e-mail use and one 5 minute phone call, it was flashing a battery warning after 3 hours! Plugged the phone back in, uninstalled Helix, and now everything is running smoothly. A shame, because I really enjoyed using this launcher during the brief time that I had it. :(

HelixLauncher - (for devices running 2.1) Very nice launcher app developed over at XDA Developers. Much like Home++ but very fast and stable. Features include:
-3 to 7 screens (swipe scrolling between pages)
-launcher bar at bottom for 4 user defined apps links (just drag and drop)
-double tap for screens preview
-enabled rotation

This has a thread up in the "Hack" section.

i'm running 2.0 unrooted droid. i had downloaded the helix launcher and could not set it up at all. then, all of the sudden i don't know what i hit, but i was given the option of using helix or home++. i do have the seven screens now. i have a question, would i be able to get the 2.1 ota update while using helix, or do i need to go back to home++ for that to happen?

One odd thing with Helix is that I have Beautiful Widgets. Normally on the info bar I have a temperature, but it's not there when I power up. Once BW updates, it re-appears.

There is obviously something else causing your phone to lag, because Helix blows Home++ out of the water, and I was a devout Home++ user. Helix hasnt FCd on me once, never lags and looks much cooler than Home++ (at least I think)

I don't know... I tried uninstalling some of the bigger apps / widgets that I was using, and while it does help I still see the screen transitions being noticeably smoother and cleaner on Home++. I'd imagine rooting / OCing would help, but I'm not quite there yet. I have actually had fewer FCs with the recent update than I have with Helix (maybe half a dozen in total), so I don't know what others are doing that I'm not. :)

Hmmm weird, I don't know if rooting/overclocking makes a difference or not in terms of stability of Helix (I'm rooted and OC'd btw). But maybe that's what it is? I loved Home++ but to me Helix makes it completely obsolete.

I just installed Helix last night. So far so good. Seem's really nice.

One question though...

When I installed it, I got the usual warning messages. It said something to the effect of it having access to "services that cost you money". What is all of this about?? Also mentioned access to phone calls, and contact list.

Kinda paranoid that this may not be safe?

I'm getting some force closes here and there with the launcher and beautiful widgets? Running the latest smoked glass rom.

That was kind of a bust. Installed Helix and then picked it when I hit the Home button. My Droid went black; deader than Elvis. Had to do a battery pull, so tried Helix again with the same results. Third time I chose regular Droid Home, and my widgets were unhappy. Some restored, but others had to be 'reanimated;' Battery Left is still re-reading. This is on an unrooted Droid with no other home replacements and nothing installed outside of the safter side of the market. It was slightly stressful; uninstalled and I think I'll wait until after 2.1 arrives to see what options await.

I'm running SimplyStunning but it has the smoked glass theme and i'm using the latest beautiful widgets also. No FCs here :icon_eek:

It means that it accesses your phone and text messaging... which of course it would because it's a Home replacement.
