Holy Finishing Touches Batman, it's Sapphire 1.0

So....you didn't read ANYTHING I posted then? Especially the link explaining why the gapps are removed and how to install them? I have a hard time having sympathy for someone who asks for help and doesn't even take the time to read the replies.

I get that now. I find the reason to be PATHETIC.

Ok, well, that's nice I guess. It would be much better if you understood the difference between a source built rom and a modified OTA rom, but, it's all good. If you don't like the fact that GAPPS aren't included, perhaps this isn't the rom for you. For the rest of us, we find that the source built rom is absolutely the most stable piece of work out there. To each their own.

The issue is im doing this all from the phone. I don't have my usb cable. So obviously i can't download the file because i don't have androzip install and the market app is not even installed.

Pretty halfass if you ask me. Back to BB.

from the wiki page - "As of 0.8.4, sapphire is no longer including google apps by default, for legal reasons. If you still wish to have the google experience installed, then please download the package below and install it as well."

You shouldn't need androzip. just click on the link to download the file, use your terminal to rename it (term emul in Dev Tools) if necessary and move it to the root of the SD card where you can reboot into recovery and install it right over the ROM without wiping anything.

Otherwise, you are giving up pretty fast on what is undoubtedly the best ROM I've used... pretty sad if you ask me. If that is the case then so be it...enjoy BB.

IMHO..... if you would really know what you were supposed to do and why you needed to add GApps, then there'd be no issue currently..... not trying to be harsh, just pointing out that you should shoulder most of the responsibility as to why you don't have GAPPS installed...:D

You can't even begin to download the files with out an app that reads the zip format. What i'm trying to get at this is the first rom i have used that you can't fully install over using the phone exclusively.

You don't need the USB cable. You can either download the files from the site and put them on your SD card and then flash from there or you can use clockwork and everything is available for download there. You have to flash the rom first and then flash the gapps zip file in order to get everything needed...there are legal reasons this separation was made.

This ROM is a lot of things...halfass is not one of them. There are a lot of us using it with no issue. If you step back..read through the directions or listen to the people trying to help, you would be fine.

Did you not read anything i just said? YOU CAN NOT DOWNLOAD A ZIP FILE ON THE PHONE WITHOUT A APP THAT READS THE ZIP. It won't even start the download.

Then...all you need is an app, like Astro, that will read the zip...I fail to see how this is some big issue

Either that or spend the couple of bucks on ebay to get a usb cable so you can make your life in the rom world a lot easier

Nandroid back to BB, then redownload Sapphire v1.0, but this time also download GAPPS.... and install all.... whether it was via Rom Manager or manual download

Oh I get why. But it's really not a good reason, IMO. He doesn't have the market installed nor does he have a usb cable with him, so there's no easy way to get another app installed. However, I still lack sympathy because quite frankly it should have been done from ROM manager or at the very least both the rom and gapps copied to the sd card before installing the rom. It all goes back to a lack of reading and preparation before jumping in blindly. It's still easily fixable and when it's set up correctly, I'm sure we all agree, that this is one of the absolute best roms out there. A minor issue like having to separately install gapps really takes away from all the good that this rom has to offer.

In that case, you restore a backup and then download the necessary files.

If you don't want to do that and still want to try a source-built ROM, then there are others choices out there that already include the G-Apps.

But, it doesn't exactly help to begrudge the developers of *this* ROM because they chose not to include them for legal reasons.

Good point. Try using wget in the terminal:

wget -q -O /sdcard/gapps-update.zip http://files.ccroms.net/sapphire/froyo/1.0.0/release/sapphire-1.0.0-gapps-update.zip

Exactly!!

He needs to accept most of the blame for not knowing what he had to do to begin with... a pretty simple thing IMHO...

Chrome 2 Phone Automatically Removed on Restart

All - I have Sapphire 1.0 and i removed chrome 2 phone using terminal emulator and restarted the phone. Then I installed version 2 from the market and it installed successfully.

Now when I rebooted my phone, chrome 2 phone is gone!. I had to reinstall it again and I rebooted again to see if it would be removed, and it was.

Anyone might know what could be causing this?
