Holy Finishing Touches Batman, it's Sapphire 1.0

<snip>
This is my tried and true method and never fails me.

1. Wipe EVERYTHING! (multiple times? eh, that's a debate yet to be won)
2. Install ROM
3. Install g_apps
3. Reboot
4. Sign in to Google.
5. Let your apps restore and all the syncing stuff finish. (this may take several minutes)
6. Shut down phone.
7. Power back into recovery and install different kernel (optional)
8. Reboot
9. Shut down phone.
10. Power back into recovery and install theme (optional)
11. Reboot.

Everything should be good to go!
It seems like a lot of steps, but it's really quite easy.

I would only add one item to this procedure ...

(a) Make Nandroid backup

Ahhhh. Yes very good point! Can't believe I forgot to mention that. Probably right after step 5. That way you have a stock ROM to go back to. Another good practice is to wipe everything before a restore. Most people don't realize that data can still be left from your then current setup and cause conflicts even after a restore. Its happened to me several times. Keyboards not working....apps force closing ....etc etc. As long as you do a full backup....you can wipe then do a full restore and you'll be just like new!

I actually add another step to my process. I use titanium backup, and I have it on my sdcard with my license so that I can install it from recovery. However, when I attempted to skip signing into my google account and tried to restore my backup from titanium, it would reboot the phone immediately. So, my process is now install rom+gapps, reboot, sign into google, reboot into recovery, install titanium, reboot, let the apps start downloading. Once they start downloading I can then restore from titanium and all is well. Works great. Also, nandroid backup before and after. :D

My GPS was also dropping randomly this morning...fine in the pm. Mebbe a GPS issue?

Where were you? Out in the open or in town? The GPS satellite constellation can sometimes get bad for folks in the city. If you don't have line-of-sight to 4 or more satellites things can get wonky.

Here is question regarding lock pattern. How can I turn it off and on without setting lock pattern every single time i disable it?

I would suggest you do a nandroid backup as Step 0 as well. Better to have a current back up in case anything goes south. I have bone stock back ups of CM508, CM6RC2, and Sapphire 1.0, no themes, custom kernels, or apps installed. Very handy to have.

Anyone else starting to have wifi issues? Was working but now shows connected at home but cant surf. Also cant connect to new networks just shows obtaining ip address..... Stock kernel and 1.0. Any ideas? Thanks.

This happened to me too - I went into WiFi settings had it foget my network and then added it again. So far so good ...

Thanks. Will give that a shot when I get home.

Had this happen to me a couple times. Turned out it had automatically connected to another open access point in the neighborhood with a lousy internet connection instead of my access point.

I have 2 wifi routers on different channels. One's set up as a router, the other as a switch/access point. Not sure how the droid handles switching from one channel to another, but every once in a while I need to stop and restart wifi.
