[Home Replacement App] Sweeter Home public Beta is out!!

ya i just uninstalled it. just way too buggy. back to home++ because it rarely crashes for me.

HUH?? This hasn't crashed on me yet (while, once in the theme editor, but never running the Home app). Home++ would crash every time I brought the phone out of sleep (though it did work flawlessly for several days, then for no reason it started crashing regularly... I hadn't installed any new apps or changed any settings, it just got corrupted somehow). Here's hoping the same thing doesn't happen with Sweeter Home.

I have to go with brock here. I spent hours creating a theme that I am absolutely in love with, but I am getting very frequent FC's and VERY laggy screen changing vertically. I saved my theme and wont be uninstalling, but I am using Home++ until some bugs are fixed.

Cool glad it's working ok. I had to uninstall sweeter home and reinstall to see if it would make my life easier somehow. I got stuck in a red droid eye loop for thirty minutes, I was just about to do a hard reset and bam there went the unlock-screen, seems like I got lucky yet again lol. unfortunately I now forgot my password :\ lol Anyway. No it doesn't connect to the forum you have to plug-in your username at the three places, and for fun put in your avatar lol. I hope you have find them easily they're kinda buried in layers of mush (I really wish there was a way to hide layers while your editing so it'll be cleaner and faster to edit.

K, been toying with it for a while and only one problem and one question.
Problem: wifi button on the power settings widget won't turn/show off (pressing it will toggle the wi-fi power but the button stays lit).

Question: Actually, never mind, I think I saw the answer already.

Looks great, Let me know if you get the "simple" theme going. Going to watch the videos on the home site tomorrow so I can get started on my own. So far just 'playing' with the theme manager it really doesn't seem well organized.

This thing sucks! Froze my phone, and I had to do my first battery pull. Later my phone just turned off randomly. Not reboot, turned off! Don't use!!

I wonder why we're all having such big differences with the home replacement apps? I haven't had any problems while using sweeterhome, only slowdowns and the very occasional FC during editing. The 2.1 launcher on my phone was horrible though, and everyone else seems to think it's stable. GDE on my phone is very stable, as is Panda. I guess some apps just don't play well with home replacements, that's really all it could be.

Make sure you guys hit "bug report" after a force close, yeah?

K, I've had two FCs and I've never seen any "but report" after the restart, am I missing something?

K, after playing with your new theme I've noticed a few things. That theme has generated a few forced closing on it's own (i.e. not in theme builder, other themes I've used did not). One of the battery widgets doesn't display the charge level (the vertical one on the bottom, and is it necessary to run two battery widgets?).

But the most disturbing thing seems to be that this seem somehow REALLY effect the booting. I rebooted it last night before I installed your new theme and it was FAST (essentially default speed) this morning I did a reboot when I woke up just to test it and, dam, it was SLOW seemed to take twice as long (VERY noticeably got stuck and the droid animation and again at the red eye).
Note: I switched back to one of the 'simple' themes and while there was a slight improvement it's still slower far than it was. Also now every time I try to d/l a theme it crashes... Going to uninstall and reset.

My attempt at using the 2.1 launcher was about the same. The drawer constantly wouldn't show me my apps and rebooted my phone regularly in addition to being slow and having lots of FCs. Others swear by it!

Home++ started acting dumb after a long time of being great, not sure what happened to it, there weren't any updates for it. So I agree it must depend on other apps.

That's what I was figuring, would be nice to know, it is a bit annoying, lol. ? for you, what calendar/agenda widget are you using on that Sweeter them (the one with the country road). I like the look of that calendar but can't find what it is. Thanks.

Same here. It was GREAT for 3 or 4 days and then all of a sudden started getting FCs every time I woke the phone from sleep or tried basic functions... the odd thing was it was at least 2 or 3 days since I had installed an app (I'm not huge on apps) Guess it could have been an update for an app.

Update:
I uninstalled Sweeter home and my booting time, while obviously improved still seams to be a bit longer than it was. Only thing I've added lately is a battery widget... hrm...

It isn't a widget, it's a calendar block from sweeterhome. The only widgets I have on my screens is beautiful widget.

Ugh, yeah I don't know what I deal is maybe I did waaay too much on that theme lol. The battery widgets were just examples of what you could put in the system part. But yeah I think the theme overloaded sweeterhome? Not sure but I made a much simpler theme that lets you enjoy your wallpaper and stuff, it's very "light" and "airy". Just uploaded it onto the server it's Called "SimplyBlissfixed" lol. Tell me if you have problem with that one.

I didn't use any images so it should drastically improve performance. And the widgets on there ae standard ones that I always use.

I just noticed something though if you resize the powercontrol widget and the music widget I noticed that the graphic states don't change I'm going to see if that's the case.

EDIT: ok it's not resizing that widgets that are causing the problem is Sweeter Home's fault. It's widget support is a little flaky right now, It's just another example of how widgets "freeze up". My beautiful smaller home widget constantly froze, but usually hitting edit and then exit edit usually fixed it. Kinda annoying though. I'm going to lay off the themes for a while lol I'm burned especially after that droidforum unforunate fail lol...I'm sticking with my Simply Bliss theme for now. If I notice that it's getting to be unacceptably laggy I'm just gonna go back to stock. lol So far all home replacement apps have failed me even though I love them, I hope this one doesn't. Hopefully it'll stabilize without me editing stuff anymore.

NEWBIE here...and My DROID is NOT rooted!
(1). I went to the web link in the OP.
(2). allowed for the Unknown Source app install on the DROID
(3). it installed the APK...

it is not running anything, but now I DO NOT want it on my DROID....how do I remove it! It is obviously NOT listed in the Applications tab, for a normal uninstall...

PLEASE teach me...I need schooling here!

Thanks!

First of all, why do you capitalize DROID everywhere?

Second, you uninstall it by going to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Sweeter Home. If it isn't in the list then you didn't install it right.

Gardobus is correct it should be in your applications list. And your phone does not need to be rooted to use it, mine isn't. goodluck hope you see it!

UNBELIEVABLE power here....

The power to force close a bunch.

But the customizability for the POWER USER is amazing.
This is NOT for the N:icon_eek:B.

I hope they get the force closes worked out because this this is very very cool.

This seems specific to Droid, I'm sorry to say. haven't had this problems with any other handset users... so take from that what you will. Dev is trying to pinpoint the problem bit without someone providing a logcat on a "failed" boot he can't do anything.
