[How-To] Force Motorola Droid 2.1 OTA Update (ESE81)

Can we delete the update.zip file from the SD Card after the installation is complete? Thanks.

Yes, you can. On the actual OTA it would have been done for you.

BTW, my first attempt to apply the update.zip just exited recovery if that matters, I just rebooted into it and retried. Second time it ran and installed.

I had an update.zip already, assuming that was from the previous update - it was about 10mb ... so I moved it (just in case I ended up needing it) and my force update worked fine. If I had not moved it, using Windows Vista, it would have named my update file "update(2).zip" ... maybe that's the issue some are having?

Not sure if the original update file is needed or can be deleted or renamed ... for those using Windows Vista - you will probably need to remove it from the root so Windows doesn't automatically name your file (2) and mess up your install.

Anyway, my update worked ... now I'm trying to mess with it and see all that it entails. I had forgotten about gallery until I just read the post above! ;)
thanks for all of the people who work to get this OTA update here on the forum.

I have the unzipped file on my sd card. what am I doing wrong?

Thought there would be more screens, is that not the case? Has anyone tried the root process by using ADB and with another certain update.zip? That is how someone got the ERE25 .sbf rooted.

anyone with a rooted phone have success with this yet?
that is what I am waitng for.....did anyone have success with a rooted phone???

if you did..when you answer...please do not say it worked like a charm....we do not know if you are talking about and unrooted or rooted phone...so please specify...
thx!!!!

This went very smooth for me. Thanks!! I love the fact I did it all on my Droid, no connecting to a PC.

Follow directions, people. If something went wrong, you didn't.
