[HOW TO] Install the leaked Android 4.0.4 ICS build on the Droid 4 (XT894)

hmm, everything about the leak is golden except flash player refuses to work. for instance it loads up and everything looks dandy but the video itselft wont load or play... is there a fix for this yet:blink:

you can go straight to .213 from gb. in fact, i absolutely would go to the latest leak. its not like nightlies, where an older one could be more stable. id imagine a leak wouldnt be leaked unless a fix was made to the precious one.

and once you're on any ics leak, you can play with safestrap, ics based cm9 or aokp.

I've had the same problem on all the leaks too. It's hit or miss, for some people it works and for others it doesn't. I've uninstalled and installed flash multiple times but still no luck.

This is what i get when i follow the installation...where am i messing a step?...

That is a generic error that occurs when you haven't installed the correct files before flashing or your phone is not currently at STOCK level.

Here are links to the STOCK GB files:
Download Links
Direct Mirror download

If you are currently running Gingerbread you must RE-INSTALL the STOCK 6.15.219 OTA including wiping user data and cache. Then when it restarts you don't even need to let it boot, just hold down Volume Down + Power and wait for it to turn off. Power back up holding both volumes + power and run the leak install. So, just do two installs back to back. First flash the STOCK OTA then immediately flash the 213 leak.

If you can't find the 213 leak link here is a Mirror copy

The error message means you have modified files on your phone so the OTA version check can't verify you have the correct version.

If you are running a leak and want to update to a newer leak I wrote a menu driven script to prepare your phone for the update. Follow instructions in this post:

Uhm...

I did all that and I'm still stuck.

Fails everytime. Did the Fastboot, took the OTA --the one they released about a month ago-- and followed the rest of the steps to the damn letter.

Did the OTA kill it?

Thanks!

Tell us exactly what you started from (GB 215 or 219, or an ICS leak), which leak you're attempting to update to, and which tools you used.

Word. Started with GB 219. Fastbooted back to stock 219 bc I had deleted some of the stock apps-- VZ bull**** and whatever. Took the OTA updated.

Rooted with motofail exploit. Updated Superuser binary.

Using Safestrap but I know to use recovery to get to 4.0.4.

Am i retarded?

Gotcha.

The OTA updated.... the 18 MB update that came out about a month ago. It was just a maintenance patch.

So.... walk me thru this again. Should I delete safestrap and then install zip from sd?

I thought I knew what I was doing... I rooted my X and Tbolt with no problem but this is a sum *****.

Edit: sorry I didnt know we couldn't curse.

8-)

The instructions tell you what you need to do: fastboot 219, root, update binary, use rootkeeper, put the leak on the sd card, and update to the leak in recovery.

Reread the instructions and start over. In addition go to safestrap and remove recovery and then uninstall safestrap.
