My bud just upgraded from a bb to an EVO. I WILL NOT HAVE HIM ONE UP ME. HURRY UP AND RELEASE IT! I was relentless in making fun of his bb. Now he can laugh at my droid.... ug...

I don't know.....the OG Droid is still the king IMO.

I bet there is going to be a commercial during the super bowl that will give the release date or something, that kind of makes sense, release during a huge event that almost all Americans watch.

That would be a really good idea.. I wonder if thats how they will do it..

Well, I remember that the first statements of the "release of LTE" was that it was going to be released in Major NFL cities at first. So derekmiller12's statement could hold some truth, seeing as in its superbowl and all...

I do have to say this...

At, 3am I ordered the iPhone. I was afraid of the 4g pricing and did not want to pay extra for services that I cant utilize. I then learned that you can only sign a 2 year agreement for the iPhone and that is absolutely not what I want. So I said I had a few questions that will sway me one way or the other. I am a die hard android fan and the only reason I wanted the iPhone is because of it being 3g and because in my opinion its best to test both worlds inorder to make a good comparison of the two OS's. The rep I talked with said that he didnt know much, but he did know some answers. So I asked him:

Will I have to pay for the 4g premium if I do not live in an area that is going to host lte right away?

His Answer:

yes and no, you are on a 3g unlimited plan at 29.99 currently. If you were to get the thunderbolt and stick with your 29.99 plan you, most likely, will be able to utilize the 4g and 3g at the current rate.

I asked:

so to clarify, you believe that its possible to have 3g and 4g for just the 29.99 price tag?

he said:

yes, however if you alter your plan in any way your grandfather status will no longer be in effect and you will not be able to go backwards.

I said...cancel the iPhone! After taking to that guy I felt great about waiting for this deal and will wait for the TB. I have been waiting since August and now the wait seems a bit more safe for me.

He said, look Im supposed to be getting you to keep your iPhone purchase, but you seem to know what you want and I dont blame you. I in fact think that you are making a very good choice in your decision and stick with it.

so...Im going to get the TB...regardless...and if that phone is on a 2 year only contract, I will have no problems signing up for it...Im now fully content in waiting more.

do you think it'll still be the 29.99 if we're not currently on any plan? I don't have a smartphone now so I don't have any of that data plan, since I'll just be adding it, and if I get the TB, do you think they'll make it more?

I just got confirmation from my friend who works at BB that pre-sales will start on Sunday for the TB. Have to put $50 deposit down. No word yet on when the actually release date is, but he thinks they'll announce before Sunday. I suspect that we'll get some news on a release date and data price in the next couple days.

he said that he cant gaurantee that the 29.99 price tag will stay on for any length of time. He did say that if you are paying for the 29.99 unlimited data and we dont offer that program anymore, you would be grandfathered thus keeping your unlim data at 29.99.

But that is for the 3g/4g phones. If those phones phase out and they are only 4g, Im sure things will change. But as of now, what he said is that if you are on it before it closes then you have it, basically for life...unless you change anything...even small things like if you got rid of text messaging or downgraded your minutes or raised your minutes...you cant go backwards but you can always stay the same...

He could be wrong, but he sounded very informed and was even making small talk (android related) and showed as much enthusiasm as I have. He was like "man did you see the xoom?" and I was like dude...of course I did...if i could afford to have an additional fee I would but my wife would hang me from the rafters if I keep spending money! he laughed and said the stuff about his phone and how he cant wait for the TB or the Bionic...he talked briefly about the bionic and said that Bio is probably his next phone...

I felt good about our conversation and felt I needed to share it...He was a pretty cool guy...wish all of em were like him. He was as excited as I was.

4G phones, IIRC can still handle 3g... and VZW can't force you to pay for 4G. Obviously without paying for it I wouldn't expect to take advantage of 4g, but it's by no means mandatory. I'll be buying a 4G device but I don't have 4G in my area... so I won't be using it, and certainly not paying for it.

I guess I'll talk to the rep i've been talking to about the phones about possible price, if I can get it for 29.99 I think i'm def going to get the Thunderbolt instead of the X

If the TB is offered at BestBuy before the Verizon stores, will I be able to switch from AT&T to Verizon there? Or can that only happen at a VZW store?

I've seen conflicting info on this. I'd also like to be able to port my number (from AT&T, which was originally VZW and ported over two years ago so I could get a BlackBerry Bold - bleck).

I just don't see why they would release it best buy before vz stores. But I guess either way who cares, the sooner the better, I will be pre- ordering mine online.
