HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

HTC Inspire 4G hits AT&T on February 13th, does HSPA+ for $99.99 -- Engadget

Now, this phone is not quite as beastly, spec-wise, as the Bolt, but maybe it could have some affect on the price when it finally comes out?

$330 on 1 year contract + $30/month unlimited 3G/4G = getting this phone on release date

$250 on 2 year contract + $40-45/month forced and capped 4G = may be reconsidering my options (Inc2?)

If the Bolt is releasing for 150 more that's a shame

We don't know what the data for LTE will cost, so assuming a $10-15 dollar a month premium is very premature.

Yeah, I know, that's why I played out 2 alternative scenarios. I assumed a best-case in the first (ie. no extra charge for LTE), and then a worst-case in the other.

lol 40-45 a month for smartphone data would be rape. I would be very sad if they chose to do that. Sprint is one thing, their plans are cheaper in the first place(their network isnt as big tho) so they can get away with it. But big red is already known for expensive smartphone plans. lol that pricing would be the nail in the coffin for me. I guess i would wait for the dinc 2 as well, and rumor has it, dual-might be lurking inside anyways :icon_eek:

Yep, that would be highway robbery if they did that (let's hope for no upcharge). As for the DInc2, no dual core, single only (if that's the device rumored to come out sometime between late March and early summer). Where did you hear such a rumor (post a link)? HTC and Qualcomm will not have a dual core phone out until late this year (late Q3, Q4, or maybe even Q1 2012). There is no particular device we have heard of yet, we just know that they have the chip in the works. Besides, the OS software on the phones and the Android platform itself are not really ready for dual core yet anyway (and won't be able to utilize it for months until they figure it out, and developers make games and apps that can take advantage of it). They would not release a dual core 3G phone right after a single core 4G phone on the same network from the same manufacturer. That doesn't make any sense.

I assume the Inc2 will be kind of like a Thunderbolt without 4G capability, and a bit smaller screen, but the same processor. Maybe 512 of RAM instead of 768 like in the 'Bolt...that's my guess...

My question with Verizon charging for 4G is this...they really only have it in very limited markets. Can they really charge someone like me far, far away from any 4G source extra money with that fact? LTE is in it's infancy right now, a year from now it will be more readily available, and I could see the possibily of an extra charge if I can get it going into the next town...but with it being so limited right now, I just can't see them charging us extra for it just yet. I mean I understand Sprint charges EVO users extra, but Sprint 4G is all over the place. It just would be a bad move to me to charge extra for a product the majority of us can't even use. Thunderbolt sales would be terrible if they did!! My bet is $30 unlimited 3G/4G like was said earlier...I hope!!

AT&T is playing the T-Mobile game of we have 4G too, but its not.

I almost forgot, did you notice the battery, even smaller than Verizon's. I found an image of the back of the phone with AT&T logo, NO EXTENDED BATTERY OPTION.

As for data rates, until they print it, it ain't so. What great data rate options do you get from AT&T, 2GB for $25 and then how much more per GB. Even if the cap is 5G at $45 compare that to AT&T 2GB @ $25 + $10 per GB so on AT&T 3G 5GB is $55 and 5GB of (rumored to be capped) 3G/4G is $45. So which one is better? The network with the most dropped calls or the Verizon.

I follow VerizonWireless on twitter hoping I would get some TB answers and they would never respond to me.. But today they posted this!

"Many have waited for the Verizon #iPhone. Some looking for the #4G #LTE HTC #Thunderbolt. May be sooner than we expected!"

That maybe a really good sign for us that want the TB!! :) dancedroid
